6 Amazing Superman Graphic Novels That Will Save You $46

supermanComixology is running an awesome sale on essential Superman stories through February 17.  I think virtually all of the titles are worth checking out but if you are looking for recommendations here are six of the best items on sale.  And if you get all six you will save a whopping $46 in addition to having your life permanently enriched.  Specific titles are after the break, enjoy!

  • All-Star Superman.  Usually $19.99, on sale for $5.99.  This is my favorite Superman story of all time (closely followed by Alan Moore’s brilliant two issue story “Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?”).  Superman saves a solar research vessel from falling into the sun.  The exposure to solar radiation both supercharges his powers and also poisons his cells–Superman now only has a year to live.  What he does during that year to tie up loose ends and leave his legacy intact is amazing and worth the read.
  • Superman: Red Son.  Usually $12.99, on sale for $5.99.  Perhaps the most classic Superman Elseworld story ever written–what would have happened if Superman’s rocket had crashed into the Soviet Union during the Cold War instead of Smallville, Kansas?
  • Superman: For All Seasons.  Usually $12.99, on sale for $5.99.  If you enjoyed the TV show Smallville then you’ll love For All Seasons.  This is a series of stories that take you from young Clark to the Superman we all know.  Great coming of age story for the most well known superhero around.
  • Superman: Birthright.  Usually $12.99, on sale for $5.99.  A modern retelling of the Superman origin as young adult Clark Kent makes his way into the world and becomes Superman.  If you’ve ever cracked a joke about how Clark’s glasses are the worst disguise ever this book will actually make you believe they’re a fantastic disguise.  That’s not easy.
  • Superman: Earth One Volume 1 ($10.99, sale $5.99) and Volume 2 ($11.99, sale $5.99).  Another retelling of the Superman mythos but this time by J. Michael Straczynski (writer for TV’s Babylon 5 but also created one of the best superhero graphic novels ever: Rising Stars).  It has some fantastic moments that I can’t spoil here.
