The latest episode of Gabbing Geek is now up. Come listen to the audio if you didn’t get a chance to watch our live streaming Meerkat of the whole session!
Gabbing Geek 30: Future Directions takes you directly into the future as it was our first live streaming podcast sent out via Meerkat. Be sure to follow us @GabbingGeeks to see future streams. Sadly, our podcast was without one Jenny because she was sick with fever. And so we postponed our Geek Rematch of Close Encounters of the Third Kind one more time. We will absolutely get to it in Episode 31. Unless we don’t.
In our Geekiest News of the Week (GNOW) we sigh over our collective #ReadyPlayerOnegasm as Steven Spielberg has been announced to direct the movie based on the beloved book. Will he actually direct the movie and who’s betting it won’t happen? We also cover the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Russo brothers have been announced to take over for Joss Whedon in directing Avengers Infinity War parts 1 and 2 once they finish that Captain America: Civil War film that starts next month. Is this a good move for the post-Whedon MCU?
Because Jenny isn’t around to keep Ryan and Watson from geeking out over numbers, Ryan put together a game where we look at three upcoming movies and try to guess what their Rotten Tomatoes scores will be. Ryan presented Watson with some comparable and then an over/under line for Furious 7, Paul Blart 2, and Avengers Age of Ultron. With a cup of coffee resting on each movie, who will bring home the caffeine?
Finally, you can’t talk about the future without talking about aliens. Well, I guess you could but why would you do so on purpose. So we played another game where Ryan listed some planets in science fiction and fantasy and Watson had to guess what movie, TV show, book, comic book, or other geek property the planets came from. How did Watson do? How would you do? How do you do? Fine? Good.
Next week is the Geek Book Club on Ready Player One and the Close Encounters rematch. We 100% guarantee it at least 50% of the time.
