Pretty Much Official, Miles Morales Joining The Avengers

If it wasn’t official before, just highly rumored, it sure seems like it is a done deal now.  After a few days of teasing, Marvel has revealed the cover to one of their Free Comic Book Day offerings, The All-New, All-Different Avengers.  While their other FCBD drop will be Secret Wars #0, which of course leads into this summers mega event, this new Avengers book supposedly takes place after Secret Wars.

Whatever the state of the Marvel Universe is at that point, it is obvious that while some things will change, much will stay the same.  The biggest change of course is Ultimate Universe superstar Miles Morales joining the more familiar 616 Marvel Universe (or whatever it is after Jonathon Hickman is done with it).  Also joining the team are Vision, the newest incarnation of Nova and the new Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan.

The rest of the team is filled out with the “Big Three”…in name anyway.  Along the “more things stay the same” line it looks like Lady Thor and Falcon-Cap will make it out of Secret Wars unscathed.  The one question mark potentially remaining is who is in the Iron Man suit?  After intentionally avoiding being un-inverted in Axis, Tony Stark is currently wearing different armor  and just generally acting like a douche in Superior Iron Man.

How can anyone take this guy seriously looking like this?

Is he back to “normal” and/or wearing a version of the classic red and gold armor?  Or is there someone else in there?  There were some rumors during the teasers for the book while most of the characters were in silhouette that this might be Pepper Potts, Iron Woman.  While this would seem to fit nicely with the “All-New, All-Different” theme (and Marvel’s push to have more female starring characters), the armored Avenger on this cover doesn’t seem…um…”curvy” enough for that.

The All-New, All-Different Avengers will be written by Watson pal Mark Waid with art by Mahmud Asrar.  It will debut on Free Comic Book Day, Saturday May 2nd…the day after the release of some movie.  Age of Aquarius or something.
