With Season Five of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones set to debut this week, there has been much talk that the show will pass the books and finish before Martin concludes the epic novel run (the producers know the ending). Well Martin might lose the war, but he at least wants to win the next battle!
Martin has doubled his efforts to get the next book out before the sixth season starts next spring.
“Having The Winds of Winter published before season 6 of Thrones airs next spring “has been important to me all along,” says the best-selling New Mexico author. “I wish it was out now. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I’m turning down a lot more interviews—anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done.”
That’s the most definitive scheduling we’ve heard from Martin. I expect it to drop in February of 2016. There is no chance, however, that Martin will conclude the series with book seven by 2017.
