FINALLY! GIRL POWER! I am so excited for this news! If you haven’t heard, coming in the Fall of 2015, Mattel, DC, and WB are teaming up to launch content and merchandise aimed at girls! YO! Awesome! What’s even better is that the line features products ranging from action figures to tv specials developed for girls aged 6-12, and will center around female super heroes and super villains. Some of the characters to be included are Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumble Bee, Poison Ivy, and Katana. COOL!
According to Comic Vine:
All of these characters will be younger and will feature a time before they reached their full potential as super-powered beings. The line will empower girls to discover their potential and inspire confidence.
Mattel will be launching a toy line in 2016 which includes action figures. The COO of Mattel, Richard Dickson had this to say:
“Together with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment, the DC Super Hero Girls franchise will further expand our already powerful girls portfolio. We know Super Hero is a culturally relevant theme and the DC Super Hero Girls franchise will engage and inspire girls, providing cues to explore heroic acts through play and into real life.”
Random House Books will also be using their Young Readers imprint to bring these heroes to life in Spring 2016. Finally, LEGO is joining in and will be creating some LEGO building sets with this new line in mind.
Okay, you had me at merchandise aimed at girls, but now I’m swooooooooning hard core because you mention LEGOS! LEGOS people, LEGOS!
Hey – if you’re wondering what to get me for Christmas next year – place this high on the list 🙂
