Spider-Man Complete Chronology Update 1

 

For this first official update I’ve added issues that fall in the timeframe between Amazing Spider-Man 51 and Marvel Team-Up 4.  The chronology notes are still pretty lightweight at this point as the bulk of the issues are Amazing.  The introduction of Marvel Team-Up in 1972 is the first time that Spider-Man is appearing in more than one title a month.  It adds some complexity, but the two titles are actually pretty tightly knit editorially, and the two series weave together nicely.

There are some spoilers if you’ve missed out on the last 50 years of Spider-Man and are just getting started.

Spider-Man – Death and Destiny 01 – Newspaper editorial says it is a week after Captain Stacy’s death in Amazing Spider-Man 90.  But it is before the funeral which is shown at the beginning of Amazing Spider-Man 91.  Things start to overlap and get a bit confusing after this point as the funeral is also shown here.  Amazing Spider-Man 92 picks up right after 91.
174. Spider-Man – Death and Destiny 02 – Continuity error, Peter still has his motor bike which he sold in Amazing Spider-Man 66.
175. Spider-Man – Death and Destiny 03 – Peter knows Gwen is going to England…which she doesn’t tell him or do until Amazing Spider-Man 93.  Continuity is played fast and loose here, as such, placing the entire series after Amazing 93 as more of a flashback.

191. What If? – V2 – 042 – What If Spider-Man Had Kept His Six Arms? – Has to take place after Amazing Spider-Man 102.
192. Marvel Team-Up 003 – takes place about 2-4 weeks after Amazing Spider-Man 102.  Spidey has already told Human Torch about Morbius.  Torch knows Spidey goes to college. (Does he know he’s Peter?)  The first couple of pages occur directly after 102, but the rest does not and is continued in Marvel Team-Up 4.  Placing these issues is tricky within the Amazing Spider-Man timeline as each issue seems to follow the next almost immediately.  Going to place them after 102 to keep all the Morbius stuff together, though technically it takes place “weeks later”.  Has to occur before Amazing Spider-Man 113 which has a direct reference to Marvel Team-Up 4.
