Tania Katan is an activist, author and programmer. But that’s not all she is, she is a hero – dare I say superhero because she started a powerful movement to inspire women to enter the tech industry. The campaign #ItWasNeverADress has transformed a universal symbol for women into something much more meaningful. The idea is to “shift perceptions and assumptions about women and the audacious, sensitive, and powerful gestures they make every single day.”
Katan had this to say:
“In science, technology, arts, mathematics, politics, houses of worship, on the streets, and in our homes, insightful women are often uninvited, overlooked, or just plain dismissed”
“It Was Never a Dress will foster necessary conversations, vital voices, and images from around the world that honor ALL women. When we see women differently… we see the world differently!”
As a woman, her words speak volumes to me, darn it if I didn’t think of the thing myself…missed opportunities Jenny, missed opportunities. My hope is that this campaign continues to grow support for women in STEM, as well as to bring awareness to young girls who want to explore all kinds of career options. Woot Woot! Go team!
