In case you missed it, you will not have to adjust to life without Homer and family until at least 2017.  Not that this show is EVER going off the air…

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show is picked up through Season 28:

With the additional season order, the animated family comedy following the misadventures of Homer, Bart and company will reach a staggering 625 total issues.

The early pickup also means there will be no interruption in the show’s production process. Currently in its 26th season, The Simpsons is averaging 6.2 million total viewers per episode and a 2.9 among adults 18-49.

This show has framed most of my life (including the shorts on Tracey Ullman). Here are some of the things that have happened SINCE the first episode of the Simpsons in 1989:

  • Fall of the Soviet Union
  • Three US Presidents elected to a second term
  • Mandela ends apartheid and becomes president of South Africa
  • Both Iraq Wars
  • The Arab Spring
  • Eminem won an Oscar before Martin Scorsese
  • Emma Watson was born

Big stuff!
