Yup. Ant-Man is gonna be in Civil War. No word on whether he is a secessionist or a states rights advocate, but what does this all mean for the MCU? Click on!
We all knew Ant-Man would join the MCU proper before too long. It was the “when” that we didn’t know. Apparently the answer was “the very NEXT MCU film”! Why wait?
It had been a rumor in all the normal places but Marvel has made it official: Paul Rudd is a part of the cast of Captain America: Civil War, which is starting principal photography today in Atlanta. Rudd of course plays Scott Lang/Ant-Man in Marvel’sAnt-Man, which comes out July 17. That will set him up for Civil War, which has a May 6, 2016 release date.
- Cap3/Civil War is really Avengers 3. A movie that has Cap, Iron Man, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Vision, War Machine, Bucky, Falcon, Hawkeye, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Wonder Woman, is an AVENGERS MOVIE! Disappointing slightly, as I thought Cap2 was pretty damn good. Maybe the best Marvel film evah! I wouldn’t mind seeing a pure Cap sequel, but this ain’t that.
- Ant-Man 1 may be the last true solo film in the MCU. Enjoy the smaller scope of Ant-Man (see what I did there?) Everyone is going to have a ton of other characters in the “solo” films from here on out. Who will be in Black Panther? Who will be in Captain Marvel? I don’t know, but the answer is “someone”…
- This is a test of whether different styles can mix. From the trailer of Ant-Man, it is pretty clear that Rudd is doing a broader comedy. While the Avengers is funny, it’s a different kind of funny. Thomas the Train has yet to appear in a film with Chris Hemsworth! Can Rudd’s Scott Lang fit in with a serious story like Civil War? This will matter when we get to Infinity Wars and want to pull in Chris Pratt’s Starlord in the fight with Thanos. Can the styles mix without watering down what we like about both merging properties?
