New Mutants Spinoff Film Greenlit…With An Interesting Choice For Director

The long rumored New Mutants film, based on the comic cousin of the X-Men where the mutants are primarily students who engage in extra-curricular superheroing, has just gotten the greenlight.  Fox chose a very interesting director he might be able to give the franchise a different look and feel than the X-Men and Wolverine films.  Who is it?

The Director that Fox has chosen will be Josh Boone.

It is not surprising that the studio would want Boone to grow into bigger things. He came out of nowhere to direct The Fault In Our Stars, an adaptation of the John Green novel The Fault In Our Stars. The book had a rabid youthful fan base, but Boone showed a strong feel in bringing youthful pathos to the screen, and while Shailene Woodley was already an emerging star, both Ansel Elgort and Nat Wolff broke through as new stars on that film. The result was a $12 million budget Fox 2000 film that grossed $307 million worldwide.

Ryan came with sass of the news, calling the spinoff “Fault In Our Genes.”

Ryan made Shailine sad.

Ryan is very funny but this COULD work. Why? I am confident this can be a unique superhero film because Fault really surprised me last year as a really solid movie for a genre targeting a demographic of which I am not part of (Nor was ever or will ever be…).  Boone was able to craft a mood and feel that captured teenage life without being cloying or making me yell for someone to get off my damn lawn.

Who are the must see characters for me?  Cannonball, Wolfsbane, Warlock, Magik (Colossus’s sister and the perfect character if Boone can pull in megastar Shailene Woodley), and Mirage. Anyone else HAVE to be in this?

No Cypher necessary!  His mutant powers are now a feature of Google…
