Marvel sure loves their teasers. Over the weekend they released the one above for what’s coming this fall after Secret Wars. It doesn’t tell us much. Things are “all-new” and “all-different” all the time in comics. The “8 months later” is the interesting part…
Marvel Senior Vice President of Publishing Tom Brevoort disclosed that following “Secret Wars,” storylines will move forward eight months in the new Marvel Universe. Even that is not all that new or different. Marvel’s Avengers titles just did the same trick in the lead up to Secret Wars. And competitor DC did their version with “One Year Later” about a decade ago after Infinite Crisis.
“In the same way that events jumped forward in time eight months in ‘Avengers’ and ‘New Avengers’ during the lead-up to ‘Secret Wars,’ so too when we enter the new Marvel Universe eight months will have passed for all of the characters as well,” Brevoort said. “This provides our creators, even apart from Secret Wars, to drop into exciting new situations and status quos on the fly. So look for surprises and mysteries and changes galore as series resume in the new MU.”
This does little to sway my opinion formed by FCBD’s Avenger’s #0…which was “All-New All-Different” as well. That post Secret Wars, the new boss is the same as the old boss.
