Hollywood riches continue with big returns at the back office. A few new entries try to overtake the titans from last week. Who won the week?
* Coming in first this week was once again Jurassic World, grossing $54.2m in its third week. This movie continues to demolish records, hitting the $500M domestic mark and the ONE BEEEEEELLLLLLION DOLLARS worldwide. Amazing performance that makes Ryan brim with hate each week as he reads the returns.
* Finishing second his week was Pixar’s Inside Out, netting $52.1M in its second frame. When a movie has only a 41% drop after having a $91M opener you know you have something special. This movie will have HUGE legs with nothing particularly good on the kiddie front forthcoming until July 10th (Minions).
* Number three this week with $33M was Ted 2 in its debut weekend. The mixed reviews didn’t help the comedy sequel so we will likely see this one fade; falling far short of the original.
* Pulling in at #4 this week was Max with $12.1M. While family friendly, this red state offering couldn’t take away from Inside Out; still a decent pull for a low budget dog movie.
* Rounding out the top five this week was Spy with $7.8m. Look for this Melissa McCarthy comedy to cross $100M before leaving theaters.
