Last night in Austin’s own best bookstore ever, BookPeople, beloved geek author Ernest “Ernie” Cline, gave a presentation on his geek roots, answered the audience’s questions about Ready Player One and his new book, Armada, and generally gave the crowd the night of their lives.  While the core Gabbing Geek crew couldn’t make the event, we did have multiple agents in the store. Agent Schnerk, who probably now wants a promotion to super agent, got it all on two videos which are posted after the break.  Head over to see the full clips and a summary of our favorite moments from the event!

[Update: Our favorite Austin bookstore, BookPeople, not only hosted this event but wanted to let all Gabbing Geek readers know that you can still order a signed copy of Armada!  Just follow this link to see if they still have any in stock, they have around 200 left as of this edit!]

Favorite moments (we’re still updating these–if you have one let us know the time in the comments!):

  • Buying a DeLorean” (6:35 of Presentation) – Cline talks about how his success of RPO led to him being able to buy a DeLorean.
  • Real Life Easter Eggs” (8:50 of Presentation) – Cline discusses how he wrote in actual easter eggs into RPO and on his paperback tour he encourages people to engage and try to win a DeLorean for cracking the eggs.
  • RPO At College” (12:30 of Presentation) – Cline explains the explosion of RPO and how college campuses are using it as curriculum, as well as how they are using it as a way for Freshman to get to know the campus using “3 key/gateway” scavenger hunts.
  • “Pull A Hobbit” (40:39 of Presentation) – Friend of Gabbing Geeks Griffin Kittleson asks if Mr Cline thinks Steven Spielberg will “pull a Hobbit” in directing Ready Player One.  Mr Cline’s reaction is priceless.
