Did the Fantastic Four jump over Mission Impossible and newcomers Straight Outta Compton and the Man From UNCLE to claim the top spot? No. It didn’t. Who won the week?
* Finishing first this week was Straight Outta Compton with a STUNNING $56.1M IN its debut weekend. The production budget for the NWA biopic was rumored to be $30M. This opening has Universal, already hot this year, doing backflips.
* Coming in second this week was Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, grossing $17.3M in its third weekend. The third weekend dropped was less than 50% so the multiple on this flick should be a nice one for Paramount.
* Number three this week was The Man From UNCLE finishing with $13.5M. No franchise opportunity here for Superman and the Lone Ranger.
*Pulling in at #4 this week was The Fantastic four with an absurdly low $8M. That is an almost 70% drop week over week and the bloodbath continues.
* Rounding out the top five this week was The Gift in its second weekend with $6.5M. This movie has done fairly well at the theaters and will continue to succeed in the secondary markets.
