Compton got a little competition this week from a ghost and an assassin. Who won the week?
* Finishing first this week was Straight Outta Compton with $26.7M in its second weekend. The film had a hefty 55.5% drop week over week, but the producers are still thrilled with this #. Tracking a few days before the film’s debut had the movie OPENING near this number. To get that same prediction in week 2 is a producer’s dream!
* Coming in second this week was Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, grossing $11.7M in its 4th weekend. A really nice hold, dropping only 32%, continues to spell success for the Cruise franchise.
* Number three this week was Sinister 2 in its debut frame finishing with $10.6M. The original film opened at $18M, and while I am sure this one kept a low budget, it is not an exciting development for those craving a franchise.
*Pulling in at #4 this week was Hitman: Agent 47 with $8.2M. I was surprised to see this one get a sequel. The first one only made $99M GLOBALLY. Here’s to betting there isn’t a trilogy…
* Rounding out the top five this week was The Man From UNCLE in its 2nd weekend with $7.4M. A 45% drop is not terrible, but this film is kind of like The Saint starring Val Kilmer, Remember that franchise? Nope. Me either.
