Captain Marvel Casting Rumors

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is looking for a good hero who doesn’t have a Y chromosome to headline her own movie.

No, not Black Widow.  Duh.  Who’d want to see that?

Yeah, who wants to see her in anything?
Yeah, who wants to see her in anything?

No, I meant Captain Marvel.  No, not the Kree alien who died of cancer.  No, not the one who says, “Shazam!”  Different company there.  No, not the African-American woman who turned into energy.  The one who used to be Ms. Marvel.  No, not the Ms. Marvel who’s a Muslim shapeshifter.  No, not the Ms. Marvel who used to be the She-Thing, AKA my most popular Misplaced Hero column according to page views.  I don’t know why either.

No, I meant the Carol Danvers Ms./Captain Marvel.  You should have figured that out from the picture up top.

I think everyone knew which one I meant by now, but there have been far too many Captain Marvels.

So, who will get the nod?  Watson has been championing for Emily Blunt.  Jenny probably wants Jennifer Lawrence.  Ryan says that’s possible since the restructuring of Marvel Films though I have my doubts since I think the restructuring will just allow Marvel Films to keep the talent they already have, not shell out big bucks for big names to start.  I’ve been of the opinion Katee Sackhoff would be an excellent choice since Carol is basically Starbuck without a Viper.  Jenny thinks that I am very wrong and should feel bad about my life choices.  Jimmy said something about Ronda Rousey, but I think that was due to her standing directly behind him at the time.  So, who’s right?

Well, if rumors are to be believed, none of us.

It looks like the job may go to Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson.

This woman.
This woman.

If you’re like me, and I know I am, you’re probably wondering who that is.

Well, it seems she was the female lead in the last Mission:  Impossible.  I haven’t seen it, so I can’t speak for the quality of either her or the movie itself.    I actually haven’t seen any of the M:I films since the first one.  Don’t they all end with Tom Cruise learning his boss betrayed him?  Man, that agency needs better job screening for supervisors.

That casting, I cannot stress enough, is still a rumor.  As in, unconfirmed.  As in, Gabbing Geek needed something to fit the 8AM time slot so here’s something.

So, yeah, Rebecca Ferguson might be Captain Marvel.  Shazam!
