In an era of over-hype, where there are teaser trailers for the release of teaser trailers, the Doctor Strange trailer kinda snuck up on us.  After the break, get your first glimpse of Marvel’s next star in the making.

Expect Everyone Outside Of The X-Men and Fantastic Four In Avengers: Infinity War

Co-directors and gluttons for punishment The Russo Brothers have revealed they currently have 67 characters lined up to appear in the two part Avengers: Infinity War.  My immediate reaction was “Holy $#@*!”  That has got to include EVERYONE.  The MCU regulars of the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, new blood like Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Dr. Strange and Blank Panther.  Even the TV crowd most be represented.  Anyone from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil, Luke Cage and/or Jessica Jones.  The Captain Marvel movie is scheduled in between Infinity War Parts One and Two so you’d think she’d be involved somehow.  And there are sure to be characters making their debut here as well.  Sounds like a whole lot of awesome.

Joe Russo teases:

“People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie. The concept of ‘Infinity War’ is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you’ve ever seen, and we’re going to honor that concept.”

All that said, maybe we need to keep expectations a little in check.  I’m sure we will see a lot of the crowd mentioned above.  And the TV shows do make occasional reference to the movies so they clearly take place in the same universe unlike whatever mess DC has going on.  But keep in mind the phrasing here…67 characters.  There could be villains other than Thanos that appear.  Aunt May is a character.  Night Nurse.  Agent Carter.  Pepper Potts.  The cop picking up Twinkies for his wife before heading over to Nakatomi Plaza.  That S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent with the red shirt on that Thanos kills on an away mission.  You get the point.

And it won’t be any day soon we’ll get much clarification here as Avengers: Infinity War Part One is not scheduled until May 4th, 2018.

Who Needs An Oscar, Let’s See Matthew McConaughey Play A Sorcerer Supreme.

“Doctor Voodoo. I didn’t spend six years in voodoo medical school to be called ‘Mister’, thank you very much!”

When you have Benedict Cumberbatch as your star, the rest of your cast better have some acting chops.  Hollywood Reporter believes Marvel is doing just that courting Chiwetel Ejoifor of 12 Years A Slave for a role in the upcoming Doctor Strange film.  What role is not yet know.  HR makes a view guesses about him portraying Strange’s servant Wong or Strange’s mentor the Ancient One.

While those could be viewed as potential headscratchers, one character that would make a lot of sense is Brother Doctor Voodoo.  (After being Brother Voodoo for 36 years, he upgraded to Doctor when he temporarily replaced Strange as the Sorcerer Supreme.  And then he died.  But now he’s back!  Because, comics.)   Marvel has never been against changing up ethnicity when translating their characters to the big screen (see Micheal Clarke Duncan as Kingpin in Daredevil for example), but the potentially larger role of Voodoo seems to be a better fit for Ejoifor than that of Wong or the Ancient One, who will likely have more minor appearances in the film.

Latino Review is reporting that there is a deal in place (link has many spoilers) to have Spider-Man return to the Marvel fold for the Avengers Infinity War movies.  The article has a rumored spoiler ending for Captain America: Civil War that paves the way for Spider-Man to join the team in the first Infinity War film and…it’s pretty convincing.  Latino Review has missed some calls but they’ve also nailed some huge ones, like the direction of the DC cinematic universe long before anything was official.  So take it all with a grain of salt, but take your grain of salt with a grain of salt too.

Benedict Cumberbatch Says Dr. Strange Is Not A Risk Because…Marvel.

In a Wall Street Journal interview about recent projects, Cumberbatch had to respond to the question of whether his leading role as Doctor Strange is a career risk after playing the more serious role of Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. And what do you think he said?
