Spider-Man Complete Chronology Update 8 (Couldn’t Stand The Weather Edition)

SpiderMan Chronicles

Everything was going along just fine until disco came along.  I’m probably not the first person to write that sentence.  For our purposes I refer to the fact that even with 3 monthly books and various guest appearances, the wall-crawlers adventures had been pretty straight forward to put in order.  But then came a couple of issues where Peter went to the disco (and then teamed up with the cast of Saturday Night Live) where everything just went all to hell.

Much, much more on this after the break as I try to put this update to rest, not because I’m happy with it…but to save my sanity.  I can’t imagine what this is going to be like when I get to the 90’s…

As usual, spoilers follow from here on out if you’ve missed out on the last 50 years of Spider-Man and are just getting started.

Expect Everyone Outside Of The X-Men and Fantastic Four In Avengers: Infinity War

infinity_gauntlet_everybody

Co-directors and gluttons for punishment The Russo Brothers have revealed they currently have 67 characters lined up to appear in the two part Avengers: Infinity War.  My immediate reaction was “Holy $#@*!”  That has got to include EVERYONE.  The MCU regulars of the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, new blood like Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Dr. Strange and Blank Panther.  Even the TV crowd most be represented.  Anyone from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil, Luke Cage and/or Jessica Jones.  The Captain Marvel movie is scheduled in between Infinity War Parts One and Two so you’d think she’d be involved somehow.  And there are sure to be characters making their debut here as well.  Sounds like a whole lot of awesome.

Joe Russo teases:

“People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie. The concept of ‘Infinity War’ is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you’ve ever seen, and we’re going to honor that concept.”

All that said, maybe we need to keep expectations a little in check.  I’m sure we will see a lot of the crowd mentioned above.  And the TV shows do make occasional reference to the movies so they clearly take place in the same universe unlike whatever mess DC has going on.  But keep in mind the phrasing here…67 characters.  There could be villains other than Thanos that appear.  Aunt May is a character.  Night Nurse.  Agent Carter.  Pepper Potts.  The cop picking up Twinkies for his wife before heading over to Nakatomi Plaza.  That S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent with the red shirt on that Thanos kills on an away mission.  You get the point.

And it won’t be any day soon we’ll get much clarification here as Avengers: Infinity War Part One is not scheduled until May 4th, 2018.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars XXXVIII (One Shot Edition)

howard_the_human_1_with_logo

Because Secret Wars clearly didn’t have enough tie-ins, Marvel went and added some one shots.

Ant-Man: Last Days, was basically the last issue of the 616 Ant-Man series and I’m not sure besides the almighty dollar why it was a #1 and not just the next numbered issue.

Secret Wars Secret Love, was basically a sister of the other two anthology books Secret Wars Battleworld and Secret Wars Journal.  Besides the love theme, there’s no reason the stories couldn’t have been incorporated into one of those books.

After the cut I’ll look at the remaining one shots: Howard The Human #1, Hank Johnson Agent Of Hydra #1, Secret Wars Agents Of Atlas #1 and…Secret Wars Too???

Be sure to check out our latest Secret Wars Power Rankings, which also features links to the other parts of my read through.

Robot Chicken Asks The Question We All Wonder About With Shared Universes

robot_chicken_avengers
“So I says, ‘Coulson, I’m sure your group of non-powered agents can handle it. We’re pretty busy over here fighting Galactus!’ Haha! And he fell for it! Everyone knows Galactus is over in the Fox Cinematic Universe.”

One of the biggest problems with shared universes in any medium, especially when it comes to super heroes, is where is everybody when you need them?  How come Iron Man or Thor never showed up to help Cap in Captain America: Winter Soldier?  Whenever the Joker shows up to taunt Batman, why can’t he call Superman to take care of him in seconds?  It’s one of those things that Tom Kelly would tell us all to not think about too much.

After the cut, Robot Chicken tackles this subject with an eye to skewing Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..

Spiders, Spiders Everywhere Part 6

msmarvel1
I’m not sure what Mr. Marvel has to do with Spider-Man, but they are sure milking it with this cover. The ad copy, her fighting Spidey foe The Scorpion and the disembodied heads of MJ, JJJ and Peter himself.

Continuing my Friday afternoon filler with cameos that don’t quite make the cut to be included in the  Spider-Man Complete Chronology.

After the break see such groundbreaking panels as:

  • Peter saying hello!
  • Peter saying nothing!
  • Peter saying nothing, but thinking something!
  • Peter in someone else’s book for no reason other than his Spider-Sense to go off!

Spiders, Spiders Everywhere Part 5

spider-verse-skottie-young

Fear not true believers, my obsession with the Spider-Man Complete Chronology and posts you won’t read has not wavered, just been waylayed by Convergence and Secret Wars.

After the break, check out some cameos that Spidey has made in the Marvel Universe over the years that are not significant enough to include in the reading order.

Need A Refresher Of The MCU Before Seeing Ant-Man?

Editor's Note: "Jimmy, why does a 'refresher' post have an image of future movies?"
Editor’s Note: “Jimmy, why does a ‘refresher’ post have an image of future movies?”

Ok, I could have put any image above that was MCU related, but I saw this cool “Road To Infinity War” image and used that.  After the break, check out two videos that cover the MCU from Iron Man to Ant-Man (no Ant-Man spoilers), with…a bit of a sarcastic view of things.  (Note, some NSFW language.)

Need To Buy 50-60 New #1’s This Fall? All-New, All-Different Marvel Has You Covered

anadavengers1

We learned a lot about Marvel’s post Secret Wars plans over the weekend.  After the break we’ll recap what we know so far from the two released teaser images, Marvel’s Next Big Thing panel at SE:NYC’15 and some odds and ends from the FCBD offering Avengers #0.

Of note, some of this could be considered spoilers, but minor…

Get Ready For An All-New All-Different Marvel After Secret Wars

All-New-All-Different-Marvel

Marvel sure loves their teasers.  Over the weekend they released the one above for what’s coming this fall after Secret Wars.  It doesn’t tell us much.  Things are “all-new” and “all-different” all the time in comics.  The “8 months later” is the interesting part…
