Sharing my (mostly spoiler free) thoughts on a couple of this weeks new comic releases because if I don’t make my quota for posts for the week I’m contractually obligated to wash Watson’s car over the weekend.
If you’re anything like me – pictures say a thousand words. Well….words also say a thousand words, but pictures are better because: PRETTY! And again, if you’re anything like me (which let’s face it, everyone is totally like me) then keeping up with all the Marvel movie rights will make your head explode. But never fear! To a 10 year old Jimmy Impossible, Secret Wars was right in his wheel house. For one full year the best heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe would be together every month bashing skulls, having mountains dropped on them and bowing before Doom. Though the tie-ins were subtle, this was really the first huge company wide event at either of the Big Two. (sequart.org has a nice article comparing Secret Wars, Secret Wars II and Crisis on Infinite Earths and which is responsible for the rise of the endless Events that I keep getting suckered into, which seems like every few months.)
One of the biggest parts of Secret Wars, and in fact the reason for it’s existence, was a promotion for a toy line from Mattel.
You think you know Superman? You think just because you read some comics and watched some movies that you know Clark Kent? You suppose that since you’ve seen 7 different Batmen, that you can pick one out of a crowd? Want to test your ability to psycho analyze? Well step right up – and compare your abilities to the best psychologists out there.
HULK SMASH TIME LOOP. Hulk smash Marvel Universe. Actually, Hulk smash nothing, since we’re about to reboot the entire Marvel Universe. Yep, you read that correctly… the whole Marvel Universe is about to be rebooted. System failure? Nope, this is not your standard reboot.
Marvel is set to launch their new Secret Wars event and they’re totally ignoring half the title–and it’s not the Wars part! A kickoff event has been scheduled for tomorrow, Midtown Comics, New York City, 3pm Eastern. Can’t >BAMF< your way to NYC? Then head over to Marvel.com/secretwars for a livestream of the event.
Latino Review is reporting that there is a deal in place (link has many spoilers) to have Spider-Man return to the Marvel fold for the Avengers Infinity War movies. The article has a rumored spoiler ending for Captain America: Civil War that paves the way for Spider-Man to join the team in the first Infinity War film and…it’s pretty convincing. Latino Review has missed some calls but they’ve also nailed some huge ones, like the direction of the DC cinematic universe long before anything was official. So take it all with a grain of salt, but take your grain of salt with a grain of salt too. Continue reading Spidey Joining Avengers? This Will Give You Chills!
