Superb Owl 50 – Deadpool

And finally today, Deadpool marketing continues to be amazing.  See the latest ad after the break.

Now, how do I convince Ms. Impossible to go see it…

Super Bowl 50 – X-Men: Apocalypse

xmen_apocalypse_psylocke

I’m a fan of the X-Men films, but the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse had me concerned.  The commercial that aired during the Super Bowl has restored some of that faith.  It looks much better than the trailer.  You’ve probably seen it by now, but if not, watch it after the break.

Slightly Misplaced Comic Book Hero Case Files #53: Strong Guy

"Why lift weights when you can bend them?"
“Why lift weights when you can bend them?”

One of the mainstays of the superhero team is that someone is the member with superhuman strength.  There may be more than one, but there is always at least one member of the team that is the team’s muscle, usually physically larger than the rest, and the one sent in when the team just needs someone pounded into dust.

That’s actually how today’s entry got his superhero name.

Slightly Misplaced Comic Book Hero Case Files #52: Stacy-X

Let me say this in advance...sorry, Jenny.
Let me say this in advance…sorry, Jenny.

One of the purposes of the X-Men over the years has been to show they’re a diverse group.  Mutants can come from anywhere, and they don’t always have to be good or noble.  For every Russian farmboy, German circus performer, or African goddess, there was some mutant who came from the wrong side of the tracks and was trying to make the world a better place anyway, the only way the person knew how.

That brings us to Stacy-X.  She was a prostitute.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 51

Armor-Wars-0.5-Toys-R-Us-Giveaway

Life is funny sometimes.  When I wrote my walk through of Secret Wars #9 I mentioned that I had read all the events books except for Armor Wars #½.  Since it was a limited giveaway at Toys R’ Us (a store I don’t frequent) I had a hard time getting my hands it.  Strangely enough, it was literally half an hour after that review posted to the website, I happened upon a copy.

After the break I will inch closer to completing this odyssey with the aforementioned Armor Wars #½, as well as finish off Weirdworld (#3-5) and X-Men ’92 (Infinite) (#7-8).  As usual, this way be spoilers.

Happy (Almost) Australia Day From Deadpool

Deadpool_Australia

It’s not quite Australia Day yet, celebrated by our friends down under on the 26th of January, but Deadpool has a pre-Australia Day message for you all.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 50 (Civil War Edition)

civil_war_2

Way back in the middle of July I reviewed Civil War #1.  Six months and 4 issues later I’ll finally look at Civil War #2-5 after the break.  The series was a bit of a mixed bag starting off but unlike many of the Secret Wars series, really finished strong.  It is currently ranked 12th in our nearly completed Secret Wars Power Rankings.

Spider-Man Complete Chronology Update 8 (Couldn’t Stand The Weather Edition)

SpiderMan Chronicles

Everything was going along just fine until disco came along.  I’m probably not the first person to write that sentence.  For our purposes I refer to the fact that even with 3 monthly books and various guest appearances, the wall-crawlers adventures had been pretty straight forward to put in order.  But then came a couple of issues where Peter went to the disco (and then teamed up with the cast of Saturday Night Live) where everything just went all to hell.

Much, much more on this after the break as I try to put this update to rest, not because I’m happy with it…but to save my sanity.  I can’t imagine what this is going to be like when I get to the 90’s…

As usual, spoilers follow from here on out if you’ve missed out on the last 50 years of Spider-Man and are just getting started.

Slightly Misplaced Comic Book Case Files#50: Feral

Just try and put your body into this position and see how benevolent you are afterwards.
Just try and put your body into this position and see how benevolent you are afterwards.

There was a time when Marvel’s X-Force was one of its hottest properties.  As drawn by Rob Liefeld, the book chronicled a group of hard-hitting mutants who believed in preemptive strikes against the bad mutants of the world, and likewise for not being so gentle and leaving them to walk away.  The original line-up has gotten a lot of mileage at Marvel, with many of the characters appearing in various X-books since the team first premiered in 1991.

So, what went wrong with Feral?
