Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars XXXII (Anthology Edition)

This cover is all lies.

There’s been quite a few short stories during these last few months of Secret Wars.  I’ve liked a handful of them, but a lot of them have missed the mark badly.  (Ryan would beg to differ, but we all know what Ryan’s like.)

I’ve already looked at Secret Wars Battleworld 1 and 2 and Secret Wars Journal Parts 1-3  in some detail.  After the cut I will finish those series with Secret Wars Battleworld #3, Secret Wars Battleworld #4, Secret Wars Journal #4 and Secret Wars Journal #5.  As well, I’ll also look at the equally unimpressive Secret Wars Secret Love #1.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars XXII

Secret-Wars-5-cover-Alex-Ross

Much like the publishing of Secret Wars itself, my read through has fallen behind schedule.  Nothing of the epic Convergence proportions (yet)…but I still have a lot of catching up to do over the next few weeks.

After the cut I share my thoughts on Secret Wars #5, Loki: Agent of Asgard #15, A-Force #2, A-Force #3, Secret Wars 2099 #3 and Secret Wars 2099 #4.

Slightly Misplaced Comic Book Hero Case Files #13: Ravage 2099

Ravage_2099_Vol_1_2
Yes, this looks like a respectable businessman.

Comic book universes often look to the future for more superhero adventures.  Some timelines are rather popular and some last a good long time, like the Legion of Superheroes for DC and the original Guardians of the Galaxy for Marvel.  Marvel tried another future in 1992 with its 2099 series.  This series of titles was actually somewhat successful with four initial titles, three of which showed revamped, futuristic versions of Marvel characters:  Spider-Man, Doom, and the Punisher.  The X-Men were added later, but among the original four was a single original hero without an existing Marvel hero to base himself off.

That hero was Ravage, a character who morphed multiple times into something new only to be shot off into space and never heard from again.

Your Weekly Update On All Things Multiverse (Or Are Secret Wars And Convergence Out Yet?)

As we trek ever closer to the big 2015 events for Marvel and DC (editor’s note: do not call them reboots!), more and more pieces are falling into place and coming into focus.

Up first, CBR has released a nicely compiled Guide to Understanding DC Comics’ Convergence. Including background on the three main time periods that the event will be revisting: Crisis, Zero Hour and Flashpoint. DC has set up each week of this event to focus on one of those time periods so you can pick your favorite and roll with it. They finish by touching on what everyone is wondering…what happens after this event? Is it a reboot (editor’s note: hey!  What did I just tell you!?!) or is it back to status quo of the New 52?

Switching over to Marvel, they started filling in some of the blanks on their Secret Wars Battleworld Interactive Map.  (The map is very cool.  Be sure to click through to it.)
