Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 52 (Hail Hydra Edition)

hail_hydra_1

I haven’t read Rick Remender’s Captain America run, so I felt a little lost to begin this series.  I knew that Ian Rogers was the son of Arnim Zola who was raised by Cap while he was stuck in Dimension Z for over a decade (while little time passed in the “real world”).  Beyond that, the issues summary page tells me that Ian aka Nomad was now the partner of new Cap Sam Wilson and was believed dead when he was trapped in Baron Zemo’s exploding base.

But did Ian take something called the Infinite Elevator all the way to Battleworld?  Find out after the cut as I look at Hail Hydra #1-4.

Need A Refresher On Secret Wars Before The Finale On Wednesday?

secret_wars_9_cover
That sliver with Spider-Man actually has Superman’s toe in it as well. Marvel is making sure all the bases are covered in the All-New All-Different universe.

Each issue of a comic book series is usually a month apart.  So if Secret Wars #1 came out in May 2015, January 2016 should see the release of…Secret Wars #9.  Which is the exact issue that is coming out in two days time!  I’m not sure why everyone is complaining about this series being excessively delayed.  Looks like it is right on schedule.  🙂

But if you do need a reminder of what happened in issues #1-8, or you never picked up those issues and want to start with #9 for some reason or you’re Jenny and are just curious about Secret Wars but will never read it, check out the Marvel produced video after the break.  Secret Wars, The Story So Far…

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 47 (Guardians Of Knowhere Edition)

With Secret Wars so delayed I thought I might actually get my write ups done before the event finished.  Well, I’ve got approximately 9 days to cover 39 issues.  Not impossible, but going to be tough.   After the break I’ll have a look at Guardians of Knowhere #1-4.  The Bendis/Deodato joint that essentially took the Guradians of the Galaxy shipping slot with the end of the universe.

Be sure to check out our latest Secret Wars Power Rankings, which also features links to the other parts of my read through.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 46 (Star-Lord and Kitty Edition)

star-lord_and_kitty_pryde_1

Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde is a middle of the pack Secret Wars tie-in.  Currently ranked 22nd in our Power Rankings, it is not a bad read, but doesn’t do much to stand out.  What does make this series a bit unique is that the Star-Lord featured here is the actual, genuine, 100% original Star-Lord from the 616 Marvel Universe.  Outside of the main series, very few of the life raft survivors have appeared anywhere, let alone had their own series.  I’ll take a spoiler-y look at this series after the cut.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 45 (Issue 5 Edition)

ultimate_end_5

This week saw the release of Ultimate End #5, the second to last Secret Wars book.  Now we just have to wait a month for the four month delayed finale to get the anticlimactic details on how Doom was defeated and everything basically returned to normal.  Where All-New, All-Different seems to equal “we got Miles now and Wolverine is back (kinda)”.

Click through as I cover the fifth and final issues of the following books: Ultimate End #5, Planet Hulk #5, Secret Wars 2099 #5, Armor Wars #5, Spider-Verse #5, Inhumans: Attilan Rising #5, Inferno #5 and A-Force #5 .

As usual there are spoilers, so take care, especially with Ultimate End which is only days old.  The others have been out a while.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 42 (Years Of Future Past Edition)

Marvel has really gotten a lot out of a story line that was surprisingly only two issues of Uncanny X-Men back in 1981.   The Chris Claremont/John Byrne classic has spawned numerous spinoffs and tie-ins and of course the best X-Men movie.

(On a side note, the “future” in the original story was 2013.  Man I’m old.)

Unfortunately, we also got the Secret Wars tie-in/sequel Years of Future Past.  I currently have it ranked as 47th out of 50 in our Secret Wars Power Rankings.  Tom would place it last.  As might Ryan if he hadn’t stopped reading it in disgust.  I’ve already looked at issue 1 and after the break I will finish the series with Years of Future Past #2-#5.

Be sure to check out our latest Secret Wars Power Rankings, which also features links to the other parts of my read through.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 40 (Korvac Saga Edition)

Korvac_Saga_1_Cover

Raise your hand if you’ve read the original Korvac Saga?  Let’s see…anyone?  Watson, put your hand down, I know you are lying.  I haven’t read it either, and really don’t know much about it besides it had a small Spider-Man cameo.  It took place in almost a dozen issues of Avengers at the end of the 70’s, so I assume they were involved.  And I think I breifly saw the old school Guardians of the Galaxy as I flipped through looking for that Spider-Man appearance.  So, they are in there too.  And that’s about all I know.

Maybe if I did know more I might have more appreciation for the Secret Wars version of things.  If you have read both, let me know.  After the cut I’ll take a spoilery look at the 2015 Korvac Saga #1-#4.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars XXXIV

marvel_zombies_2

I guess I missed an opportunity here by not getting this pushed out for Halloween as it features everyone’s current favorite undead, the Marvel Zombies.

After the cut, I’ll finish off two series with a spoilerly look at Marvel Zombies #2, Marvel Zombies #3, Marvel Zombies #4, Age of Ultron Vs Marvel Zombies #3 and Age of Ultron Vs Marvel Zombies #4.
