Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 46 (Star-Lord and Kitty Edition)

star-lord_and_kitty_pryde_1

Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde is a middle of the pack Secret Wars tie-in.  Currently ranked 22nd in our Power Rankings, it is not a bad read, but doesn’t do much to stand out.  What does make this series a bit unique is that the Star-Lord featured here is the actual, genuine, 100% original Star-Lord from the 616 Marvel Universe.  Outside of the main series, very few of the life raft survivors have appeared anywhere, let alone had their own series.  I’ll take a spoiler-y look at this series after the cut.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 45 (Issue 5 Edition)

ultimate_end_5

This week saw the release of Ultimate End #5, the second to last Secret Wars book.  Now we just have to wait a month for the four month delayed finale to get the anticlimactic details on how Doom was defeated and everything basically returned to normal.  Where All-New, All-Different seems to equal “we got Miles now and Wolverine is back (kinda)”.

Click through as I cover the fifth and final issues of the following books: Ultimate End #5, Planet Hulk #5, Secret Wars 2099 #5, Armor Wars #5, Spider-Verse #5, Inhumans: Attilan Rising #5, Inferno #5 and A-Force #5 .

As usual there are spoilers, so take care, especially with Ultimate End which is only days old.  The others have been out a while.

Be sure to check out our latest Secret Wars Power Rankings, which also features links to the other parts of my read through.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars XXXI (M.O.D.O.K. Edition)

MODOK-Assassin-1

If you had told me six months ago that a story about a killer organism that was essentially a giant head with arms and legs would be one of the best Secret Wars books, I would have laughed at you.  Especially after I read and hated the first M.O.D.O.K. short story in Secret Wars Battleworld #1.  (Though, in fairness, that was a different M.O.D.O.K..)

But here we are, and M.O.D.O.K. Assassin has really risen near the top of the heap.  Especially impressive given my low expectations.  I currently have it ranked 18th on the Secret Wars Power Rankings.  M.O.D.O.K. Assassin got better with every issue and is one of the few books that successfully landed the ending.

After the cut I’ll take a CliffsNotes (Coles Notes for my Canadian brethren) style look at M.O.D.O.K. Assassin #1, M.O.D.O.K. Assassin #2, M.O.D.O.K. Assassin #3, M.O.D.O.K. Assassin #4 and you guessed it M.O.D.O.K. Assassin #5.

thors-2

How’s this for timely and relevant…the two books I will look at after the break: Thors #2 and Age of Ultron vs. Marvel Zombies #2, came out TODAY!  That should make up for my last Convergence post being two months overdue.  (Editor’s note: “No.”)  Dang.

Also, if you are like me and haven’t read all of Johnathon Hickman’s Avengers run leading up to Secret Wars, be sure to take Tom’s Road To Secret Wars course at gabbinggeekuniversity.com.  The reading materials are online here: Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,7.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars Part Twelve

thors-1

Oh those pesky Thors.  Tasked with being the “police” of Battleworld, they are one of the truly cool new concepts introduced with Secret Wars.  And while there have been lots of Thor’s across Marvel’s multiverse and history to fill up a corps as is, we also get some cool new Thor’s based on the likes of Iron Man and Groot for example.  They’ve shown up in pretty much every book so far in one way or another, but they also get a series of their own.

In this episode of “Jimmy’s Way Behind On Deadlines”, I’ll look at that Thor-centric book with Thors #1.  I’ll also look at Armor Wars #2 (hey, there’s a James Rhodes Thor on the cover!), Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars #2 and Squadron Sinister #1.  As usual, spoilers abound.

Also, if you are like me and haven’t read all of Johnathon Hickman’s Avengers run leading up to Secret Wars, be sure to take Tom’s Road To Secret Wars course at gabbinggeekuniversity.com.  The reading materials are online here: Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four, Part Five, Part Six and Part Seven.

And that course is a prerequisite to the other parts of this series: Part One, Part Two, Part Three,Part Four, Part Five, Part Six, Part Seven, Part Eight, Part Nine,Part Ten, Part Eleven
