Simpsons Did It!: “Last Exit To Springfield”

This episode features a character, the Simpsons’ family dentist, Dr. Wolfe.  Dr. Wolfe was supposed to be a celebrity guest voice.  Both Anthony Hopkins and Clint Eastwood turned down the role.  Tony “Norman Bates” Perkins did take the role, but died before he could record it, so regular cast member Hank Azaria ended up doing it.

They also originally approached O.J. Simpson for the news panel show, but he declined.  People were kinda happy about that.  You know why.  Dr. Joyce Brothers got the line instead.

I spent many hours as a kid not just praying my favorite superheroes would get their own big budget action movies, but actually casting these can’t miss vehicles with the stars of the day.  Forget the budgetary impact of having all the biggest stars of my youth in one movie, the only limitation was my imagination!  It was quite a way to toil away the time; necessary as Words With Friends was still decades away.

Wolverine 3 Is Old Man Logan?

Yes, that is a Venom symbiote over a dinosaur.

Hugh Jackman is going to play Wolverine one last time.  At the San Diego Comic Con over the weekend, he suggested his final go-around with the character may be based off the “Old Man Logan” storyline.

That…would be a great send-off for the character actually.  Too bad they can’t make a particularly faithful adaptation.

The Entertainment Industry To Nitpickers: Historical Accuracy Is For Chumps!

Awards season.  A prominent director releases a movie that garners some Oscar nominations.  Controversy arises among some, though.  The movie is based on the life of a man many Americans think of as a hero, but who in his own time has proven to be somewhat controversial.  It seems some have found the movie has taken a few liberties with past events, and since said past events are based on real, living people, this is a cause for concern among some people.

I am speaking, of course, of Steven Spielberg’s 2012 movie Lincoln.

Gabbing Geek Box Office Report: Mortdecai Misses, Sniper Does NOT

After such big hit opening weekends with Taken and American Sniper, we finally get a reminder of what January box office reports are SUPPOSED to look like.  American Sniper continued to dominate the box office; pairing Oscar buzz and a weird Chik Fil A effect to stay at the top spot.  Most of the new releases that it faced off with were not as well-received.
