Over the years, DC’s Teen Titans group has been one of those perennial books that’s always around. At one time, The New Teen Titans, as written by Marv Wolfman and drawn by George Perez, was one of it not the hottest comic around, rivaling The Uncanny X-Men for popularity. The classic line-up that included Nightwing, Raven, Starfire, Cyborg, Changeling, Wonder Girl, and some others was all the rage. Other Titans came and went, such as Kid Flash, Speedy, Aqualad, Red Star, Pantha, and Wildebeest, but the core group was what the fan remembered.
Then, after the Zero Hour storyline, a new line-up appeared. Gone were most of the classic Titans, possibly due to no longer technically being “teens”. In its place was a line-up that at least looked interesting. There was former Speedy Roy Harper, now going by Arsenal. Donna Troy went by her real name and was, at the time, a member of the spacefaring police force, the Darkstars. Former Team Titans from a collapsed future timeline Mirage and Terra were there. So was the at-the-time only Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner, as were two teen heroes from the period, Impulse and Damage.
Marvel and DC both have many characters that share strong similarities with their cross-company rival. Sometimes it is a coincidence. Two people have the same idea, no matter how novel, independent of each other. Sometimes it is just because there are only so many archetypes. Of course there is going to be some nearly identical characters. Sometimes they aren’t even that similar. We just want to make this list longer. Other times, they are 100%, complete rip offs. When DC/Marvel did the Amalgamation back in the 90’s, they could have just used the original.
(Editor’s Note: Let’s all be kind to Jimmy and pretend it is the week of May 20th. He really does try very hard to get his work done on time. But for someone with commitment issues (ask Ms. Impossible) he can’t seem to say “No” to any project that comes his way. So remember, it’s May 20th, Convergence is not over, and Jimmy is awesome. Thanks from Gabbing Geek.)
Hey everybody! A couple of clunkers in this batch of issues as we finish up the penultimate week of Convergence. I’m looking forward to next week when the finale gets released. I’m sure it will all start making sense at that point. I’m sure nothing crazy and continuity shattering will occur and everything in the New 52 will be just as we left it two months ago.
Be sure to catch up on all the Convergence happenings with coverage of:
Read on for Week Seven spoilers after the break for Convergence Justice League America #2, Convergence Green Lantern Corps #2, Convergence New Teen Titans #2, Convergence Superboy And The Legion Of Super-Heroes #2 and Convergence The Flash #2.
Read on for Week Five spoilers after the break for Convergence Justice League #2, Convergence Speed Force #2, Convergence The Atom #2, Convergence The Question #2 and Convergence Titans #2.
Continuing my look at the first week of DC Comics Convergence event. Be sure to check out Week One, Part One for my spoiler filled ramblings on Convergence #1, Batman and Robin #1, Nightwing Oracle #1, Batgirl #1 and Speed Force #1. After the break my mind wanders aimlessly and spoilery about Superman #1, Harley Quinn #1, Justice League #1, The Atom #1, The Question #1 and Titans #1.
Not to be outdone by whatever Marvel announces on The View today, DC is trying to make waves of their own with huge changes to their entire line of comics in the wake of Convergence.
Up first, RIP New 52 branding. It hasn’t made sense in a long time and I guess we are back to it simply being the DC universe. (Unfortunately it doesn’t sound like we’ll be back to the Pre-Flashpoint DCU. Sniff.)
News on a TV series I find so intriguing that I cared enough to write an article on a TV series. Yeah. It’s about DC’s Titans. Per Nerdist: the team will consist of Dick Grayson (he starts as Robin and shifts later to Nightwing), Barbara Gordon (the exact origin as Oracle, but the word “Oracle”is left unsaid in the pilot), Hawk and Dove (the female Dove here, not the original), Raven, and Starfire. No mention of why Danny Chase, the most popular Titan ever*, was not included in the show. We expect massive firings to occur at WB over this.
I know everyone is just like me and SUPER excited about the world release of Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (aka- The Aquaman Animated Film That Watson Is Eagerly Awaiting!) But because he is the king of the oceans AND DC thought feting him once simply wasn’t enough, Aquaman is getting a Pacific AND Atlantic World Premiere!
