FINALLY! GIRL POWER! I am so excited for this news! If you haven’t heard, coming in the Fall of 2015, Mattel, DC, and WB are teaming up to launch content and merchandise aimed at girls! YO! Awesome! What’s even better is that the line features products ranging from action figures to tv specials developed for girls aged 6-12, and will center around female super heroes and super villains. Some of the characters to be included are Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumble Bee, Poison Ivy, and Katana. COOL!
Famous comic characters (especially DC) are no stranger to costume changes. Even our own Jimmy Impossible covered some wardrobe changes the other day in his DC Top Dogs Get New Threads post. Recently, artist Stephen Byrne decided to take a chance by redesigning new looks for Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, and we think they are stunning. Check out this holy trinity after the break.
Say hello to Michelle Rodriguez. You know the super star from epic movies like Fast & The Furious, Resident Evil, and Avatar (and lest we not forget her run on the TV series LOST, quite possibly the best show EVAH!). In a recent article published by MoviePilot.Com, they explore DC’s tilt towards a current rumors that Ms. Rodriguez could play the new Green Lantern. Let’s break this down into smaller chunks.
I haven’t seen much Kid Cosplay, but usually when I do, they are perfect renditions of the adult version (sometimes better). And recently I’ve been binge-watching the heck out of ARROW on the CW. So when I came across these little guys, I couldn’t help myself. Owen and Dean are two brothers who cosplay as Nerdling 2 and 3. Their costumes were handmade by their Mom and took 2 weeks to complete. Photo credit goes to David of Lift-Off Studios in Charlotte, North Carolina for the awesome pics. See more after the break.
We love love love this letter from Rowan that was Tweeted out the other day – check it out – because yes, Rowan, girls read comics too!
DC is coming off a disappointing Aquaman DVD but they have a new product destined to take my money when the kiddos hear about it.
Two toy lines based on DC Comics’ Justice League characters are being brought to life through animated movies and short films.
“Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts” will debut May 12, as a direct-to-homevideo animated movie that features Batman, the Flash, Red Robin, Nightwing and Green Arrow as they face off against super villain the Penguin, while introducing cyber animals as new foes. A sequel film will be released around the second half of 2015.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release the “Batman Unlimited” films on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. In addition, WB will also produce 22 two-minute shorts around the “Batman Unlimited” toys, making them available for free on a variety of digital platforms, while a companion app also will provide young fans with access to content.
They HAD to put Nightwing and Red Robin in it. I could have talked the boys off this cash grab otherwise. But my boys love them some Batman Family…
Melissa Benoist has been cast as Supergirl in CBS’s new upcoming hit show! You know what this means? Time to get out the hydrogen peroxide and dye that hair! Or wear a blonde wig, because Supergirl isn’t Supergirl without blonde hair. (This is coming from a blonde supporter, and thus otherwise expert on all things blonde).
Wonder Woman is definitely iconic, and this Ame-Comi Wonder Woman created by IvyCosplay definitely lives up to that iconic standard. Everything from the shinguards, to the bodice and shoulder piece. It’s stunning. A nod to the photographer MC Illusion Photography for capturing the magic.
