DC’s Legends of Tomorrow premiered last night after months of anticipation. Could it deliver on the solid foundation that Flash has brought us for the last year and a half? Could a team show work in an hour-long format? Will Mr Freeze actually be a good guy? Jump after the break for a full review.
The face of every Geek on at least some of the things on this list.
2016. Did any of us think we’d live this long? Yeah, probably. We’re Geeks, not morbid.
So, what sort of Geek Entertainment has us here at Gabbing Geek at least a little curious? See behind the cut, with some items getting some expert Geek Commentary from the Geek Guru himself, Jimmy Impossible.
I think she got the power of heart to form Captain Planet.
A common theme to many a Misplaced Hero is that many times there’s only a single creator who’s really enamored with the character. Oh, other writers and artists may have a decent run with the character, but often once the original creator moves on, the character is quickly relegated to the background or written out of the book entirely. That is more or less what happened to Snapper Carr. Creators showing favorites is nothing new, such as how Geoff Johns dealt with Black Adam, or Brian Michael Bendis’ clear love for Luke Cage. But sometimes the creator love goes to a new character that doesn’t always stick around long.
This costume is not particularly crimson or foxish.
Since I seem to beon a roll lately for thehumor era of the Justice League, I might as well tackle one more. And hey, keeping with the unintended theme of those previous three, this character represents another ally nation from the European theater during World War II.
Let’s be honest, Arrow’s ethical choices are starting to rub off on the Flash.
The first season of Flash was one of the most unexpected and fantastic surprises of the past year. It was an amazing show with action, intrigue, fun characters, a fantastic story arc, and an overall optimistic worldview that was lacking in other superhero movies or TV shows. It was so good I waived my typical rule of not letting my boys watch a primetime superhero show (Arrow, SHIELD) and allowed them to watch Flash–they loved it as well and we still watch some of the older episodes. The first season finale is one of the best episodes of superhero TV ever.
But now the second season is two episodes in and while the storyline continues to build there are a couple of troubling morality implications. I’m not condemning them…yet…but I am concerned. Head after the break to find out what has me troubled.
[SPOILER ALERT: THIS POST CONTAINS FLASH SEASON TWO SPOILERS FROM THE FIRST TWO EPISODES]
I was going to write an article to coincide with the start of the NCAA basketball tournament consisting of a bracket of 64 superheroes in a “who would win a fight” contest. Those are so boring though because inevitably the answer is “Superman wins!” Thinking of scenarios that could make for better clickbait more entertaining content led me to recall one of the greatest articles I have ever read in the history of the Internet. Thus begins our journey! Continue reading ICYMI- What Would Happen If The Justice League Had to Fight….TO THE DEATH?!?
So, the CW has had a lot of success with Arrow and The Flash, so why not use some more characters from their combined universe that Watson already hates as a concept to make a team show?
Legends of Tomorrow is that show, featuring the Atom, a resurrected Sara Lance as the White Canary, Captain Cold and Heat Wave, Firestorm, Hawkgirl, and a Rip Hunter with that smarmy demeanor that makes you just want to pop the guy in the face. With what looks like a guest appearance at least by the Flash, and Vandal Savage as a bad guy who may have a giant robot, well, it has the potential to be fun.
The CW has had some success with TV versions of Green Arrow and the Flash on, well, Arrow and The Flash, also known as the shows my wife rolls her eyes at when I say I’m going to sit down and watch one. Now, this season Arrow introduced Ray Palmer, also known as the Atom, and while he so far is more of an Iron Man than a guy who can shrink, the guy’s gotten a lot of screentime and Brandon Routh has been a welcome and charismatic addition to the series. Given how The Flash began life as an Arrow spin-off, would it be safe to assume The Atom is next? Eh, not quite.
Instead, the CW is looking to do a superhero team show, and this leads me to wonder…will it be a version of the Justice League?
Earlier this week we learned that because the Flash/Green Arrow crossover (which bored the hell out of me, personally) was such a ratings bonanza, it was going to be an annual event and an expanded shared universe was on the way. Now, in addition to a rumored Atom series (starring former Superman Brandon Routh) and a possible Firestorm spinoff (being developed as a subplot in Flash), we have a cartoon in the shared universe????
