A Serious Question About The Song Of Ice And Fire

A look so many of secretly wish we could pull off.
A look too many of us secretly wish we could pull off.

HBO recently released the trailer for the next season of Game of Thrones, and meanwhile George R.R. Martin’s publisher squashed rumors that the next novel in the series, The Winds of Winter, will be released this year.

Now, many fans have wondered what will happen when the TV adaptation uses up all of the published source material and has to move on.  And many others worry that Mr. Martin, an older gentleman who seems a bit thicker around the middle than most people would be comfortable with, though for a man his age probably isn’t too heavy, will not live long enough to finish the novels, of which he believes there will be two more.  I have a better question to ask.

Urban Fantasy: Fact Or Fiction?

Picturing a fantasy setting might give a person of supposedly sound mind an image which revolves around something that came from the mind, pen, or fever dream of J.R.R. Tolkien, even if the person in question thinks that name belongs to a particularly odd Muppet.  Or perhaps the idea is more of some sort of Game involving Thrones.  Maybe King Arthur came off his flour bag to do his thing with Merlin or Galahad or people with names way cooler than anyone else you may know, provided you don’t know any chimps of the Link family (though, to be fair, he is a rather secretive chimp).

But fantasy usually just boils down to magic and the supernatural, and if The Ring taught us anything, and it didn’t, it is that magic and the supernatural can exist anywhere, which is where the Urban Fantasy subgenre comes in.

Casting Rumors for Young Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey

Time travel makes all things possible.  Because X-Men: Days of Future Past employed the ol’ “time travel to fix problems” move, we will see Wolverine and folliclely UNchallenged Professor X cultivating the talents of younger versions of Cyclops, Storm, and Jean Grey.  Such a reboot like that could only be found in….well….in an X-Men COMIC BOOK.  So now, we get to recast these roles with young talent to battle Apocalypse.  Who will it be???

Watson’s Top Ten Movies of 2014!

Ah.  Now we get to the cream of the crop!  The ten best films of 2014!  Hope you enjoyed your year of films as much as I did mine.  This was a strong year for movies; both blockbuster and arthouse.  While there wasn’t an all-time Hall of Fame entry (like Dark Knight or Godfather), we did have many 5 star worthy films.   Any of these ten films would have been a worthy choice for #1, in fact many of them even flirted with the top spot during the year, but when the dust settled here was the final list.

How Big is Game of Thrones? IMAX Big!

Gabbing Geek will use any excuse to highlight the great Peter Dinkalge!

We knew Game of Thrones had become a big international phenomenon, but we didn’t know how big.  About 50% bigger because it is coming to IMAX!  As theaters start looking for new revenue streams, IMAX is looking to make Game of Thrones an event destination to further justify the extra $5 ticket prices.
