ICYMI-And Now…Twilight Bashing

Don't worry. This article is worth the pain memories of this photo may cause.
Don’t worry. This article is worth the pain memories of this photo may cause.

I tagged my first two articles with the tag “Twilight sucks”.  It would be irresponsible of me not to explain why.

See, I’m a happily married man.   As a result of this fact, I have seen most of these movies.  I am not sure my wife even really likes these movies.  She proclaimed reading the final book as six months of her life she’s like to get back since the book was so dull it took her that long to get through it.  But I am not my wife.  I have photos of the two of us in the same room to prove it.  So, why do I think Twilight sucks?

Slightly Misplaced Comic Book Heroes Case File #11: The Alpha Centurion

Imperius Wrecks!
Imperius Wrecks!

Superhero supporting casts can oftentimes change from creator to creator.  Its not that uncommon.  Yes, some aren’t going anywhere.  Superman will always have Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and Perry White.  Batman will always have Alfred and Commissioner Gordon.  Spider-Man is going to be weighed down by Aunt May and J. Jonah Jameson for all eternity.  But lesser supporting cast members can come and go, sometimes without warning.  When writer William Messner-Loebs was working on The Flash, Wally West had a huge supporting cast of friends that succeeding writer Mark Waid decided were only sporadically useful at best and largely ignored aside from the Pied Piper.  Loebs had Wally and Linda Park say hello to each other at a mutual friend’s wedding on his last page, and aside from her and Piper, Waid built a new supporting cast made up more of various other speedsters.  More egregious would be how Judd Winick gave Kyle Rayner a gay friend, Terry, during his Green Lantern run.  At the end of one issue, Kyle appeared to die and Terry got his power ring…only for returning writer Ron Marz to come in the very next issue to see Kyle alive, well, and with the ring on the very first page, and some dialogue how sometime between issues Terry had simply returned the ring and that was that.  Terry was never seen again.

Then there was the Alpha Centurion.   No one really knows what happened to that guy.

So, What Would REALLY Happen If The JLA Had A Fight…To The Death?

IMG_7065

Last week, Watson posted his thoughts on who would win in an epic, non-powered fight to the death between a number of Justice Leaguers, forced into combat by having a loved one’s life on the line.

But what happens when a similar scenario plays out and they still have their powers?

Awesome Cosplay Of The Day: TINY ARROW(s)

DSC_8104

I haven’t seen much Kid Cosplay, but usually when I do, they are perfect renditions of the adult version (sometimes better). And recently I’ve been binge-watching the heck out of ARROW on the CW. So when I came across these little guys, I couldn’t help myself.  Owen and Dean are two brothers who cosplay as Nerdling 2 and 3. Their costumes were handmade by their Mom and took 2 weeks to complete. Photo credit goes to David of Lift-Off Studios in Charlotte, North Carolina for the awesome pics. See more after the break.

The New 52 Is Dead. Long Live The…New 49?

Divergence-FCBD

Not to be outdone by whatever Marvel announces on The View today, DC is trying to make waves of their own with huge changes to their entire line of comics in the wake of Convergence.

Up first, RIP New 52 branding.  It hasn’t made sense in a long time and I guess we are back to it simply being the DC universe.  (Unfortunately it doesn’t sound like we’ll be back to the Pre-Flashpoint DCU.  Sniff.)

The Outright Screwy History Of The Maid Of Might

All Looks Supergirl Has Had.
All looks Supergirl has had.

Gabbing Geek, like any online publication worth its salt, has editorial discussions.  Watson was wondering how a story on longest-dead characters would go, specifically ones that stayed dead or had actual emotional impacts on the reader, especially if they died during an “event”.

Shortest death:  probably Hal Jordan as Paralax in Zero Hour…back the very next month in the pages of Green Lantern.  Longest may be Captain Mar-Vel, still dead and staying that way.

But that idea sounds like it would require too much research, so instead I’m gonna talk about Supergirl. Continue reading The Outright Screwy History Of The Maid Of Might

New Batman Cartoon Intended to Sell Toys….Just Like Other Batman Cartoons!

batman-unlimited-logo

DC is coming off a disappointing Aquaman DVD but they have a new product destined to take my money when the kiddos hear about it.

Two toy lines based on DC Comics’ Justice League characters are being brought to life through animated movies and short films.

Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts” will debut May 12, as a direct-to-homevideo animated movie that features Batman, the Flash, Red Robin, Nightwing and Green Arrow as they face off against super villain the Penguin, while introducing cyber animals as new foes. A sequel film will be released around the second half of 2015.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release the “Batman Unlimited” films on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. In addition, WB will also produce 22 two-minute shorts around the “Batman Unlimited” toys, making them available for free on a variety of digital platforms, while a companion app also will provide young fans with access to content.

They HAD to put Nightwing and Red Robin in it.  I could have talked the boys off this cash grab otherwise.  But my boys love them some Batman Family…
