Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars XXXVI

secret_wars_7

The end is near for Secret Wars.  After last weeks releases there are only 4 issues left in the event (I think), two of which are the conclusion to the main series.  After the break I’ll have a look at Secret Wars #7 and two other series that wrapped up: Thors (I’ll look at Thors #3 and Thors #4) and Squadron Sinister with issue #4.

Be sure to check out our latest Secret Wars Power Rankings, which also features links to the other parts of my read through.

It’s catch up time.

I’ve gotten into the habit of grouping what issues I review in themes or complete series.  But sometimes you just have to get stuff off your plate.

After the break I will take a spoiler filled look at X-Tinction Agenda #2, X-Tinction Agenda #3, Squadron Sinister #2, Squadron Sinister #3, Captain Britain And The Mighty Defenders #1 and Captain Britain And The Mighty Defenders #2.  Those last two actually constitute a complete series.  One of the most polarizing series of the Secret Wars event.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars Part Twelve

thors-1

Oh those pesky Thors.  Tasked with being the “police” of Battleworld, they are one of the truly cool new concepts introduced with Secret Wars.  And while there have been lots of Thor’s across Marvel’s multiverse and history to fill up a corps as is, we also get some cool new Thor’s based on the likes of Iron Man and Groot for example.  They’ve shown up in pretty much every book so far in one way or another, but they also get a series of their own.

In this episode of “Jimmy’s Way Behind On Deadlines”, I’ll look at that Thor-centric book with Thors #1.  I’ll also look at Armor Wars #2 (hey, there’s a James Rhodes Thor on the cover!), Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars #2 and Squadron Sinister #1.  As usual, spoilers abound.

Also, if you are like me and haven’t read all of Johnathon Hickman’s Avengers run leading up to Secret Wars, be sure to take Tom’s Road To Secret Wars course at gabbinggeekuniversity.com.  The reading materials are online here: Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four, Part Five, Part Six and Part Seven.

And that course is a prerequisite to the other parts of this series: Part One, Part Two, Part Three,Part Four, Part Five, Part Six, Part Seven, Part Eight, Part Nine,Part Ten, Part Eleven

Well I’m the only one in the office today (because Canada), so I need to produce all our content, hence the day has been mostly filled with videos and pictures since I’m not Tom Kelly and can’t write columns in my sleep like that chick in Tommyknockers.  That was a great book.  Hey Watson, that’s a book I read.  Jackass.

With that in mind, let’s fill this slot with a look at Wednesday’s Secret Wars #4.  Keep in mind that after the break there will be spoilers.  I’ll see if I can conference in Ryan and Tom for their thoughts as they drive to the Cape or the Hampton’s or Venice Beach or wherever it is the cool kids are these days.

Road To Secret Wars Final Part

It all came down to this...again.
It all came down to this…again.

Concluding my recount of the events from Jonathan Hickman’s epic story from his Avengers/New Avengers runs that lead directly into the new Secret Wars if so at least Jimmy Impossible knows what’s going on.

As always, potentially massive SPOILERS after the cut.

Continuing the recap on the run-up to Marvel’s new Secret Wars, as seen in Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers/New Avengers runs, if at least for the sake of Jimmy Impossible.

As ever, SPOILERS behind the cut.

Road To Secret Wars Part 4

This week’s recap of Jonathan Hickman’s dual Avengers runs leading up to the new Secret Wars will cover the Infinity crossover, which brought Thanos into the story in a way that his creator Jim Starlin has probably already retconned as out-of-character behavior, possible the work of a clone.  Because that’s what he does any time anyone other than he uses Thanos in a story.

This entry will probably be one of the longest and densest since it covers the Infinity  storyline.  You’ve been warned.  As always, SPOILERS behind the cut.

For those who plan to read the new Secret Wars but managed to miss the preliminary work in the storyline, here’s part three of the summary.

Road To Secret Wars, Part One

There sure are a lot of people in on this secret.
There sure are a lot of people in on this secret.

Marvel’s big Secret Wars mega-storyarc is coming soon, and if you’ve been following Jimmy Impossible’s posts, you’ve probably gotten a lot of information on what worlds and zones are going to exist and a few of the more recent steps leading to the start of this epic storyline. But Jimmy hasn’t been reading Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers/New Avengers work from the beginning.  I have.  Jimmy actually goes out sometimes.

Secret Wars looks to be an epic story in the making, and Hickman’s been setting this thing up for the past couple years.  People who skipped those steps and jump right into Secret Wars might feel a little lost since they missed the preliminaries.

So, as a public service, here’s what you need to know from the build-up to Secret Wars.  SPOILERS behind the cut.
