Exclusive Interview With Katherine Webb/Kate Griffin/Claire North About The First Fifteen Lives Of Harry August

catherinewebbIt’s not everyday you nab an exclusive interview with an amazing novelist but today we got to interview not one, not two, but three novelists.  The fact that they are all the same person who writes under three names should in no way diminish the epicness of this feat.

I recently had the great fortune to read Ms. Webb/Griffin/North’s book The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August.  Upon completion I realized I did not like this book, I loved this book and I used the social medias to thank the author for giving us such a great work.  After a few exchanges I asked if she’d do an interview for this site and she graciously agreed.  Find out what she had to say about writing, the book itself, and whether she thinks Clue is quotable after the break.

Obscure (nay….Awesome) Geek of the Week: A League Who Stood For Justice

There's a NORTH Korea?

Who is the greatest champion in the fight against terrorist threats in America?  Is it the FBI? No.  The CIA?  Pshah! They miss more than they hit.  The NSA?  They (This the NSA taking control of Watson’s laptop.  While we are effective, the correct response is not us…)  The greatest foe the communist aggressors have faced since Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and John Candy in Stripes is Austin’s own, Tim League!  While he isn’t obscure to the Gabbing Geek team, we’ll take any opportunity to talk about the coolest theater owner in the world.  Plus, he’s a fellow Rice alum!

Ok. NOW I Will Watch the Interview!

kim_2701423b

Unlike Ryan and Jenny, I sat out the Interview when it came out in December.  The cowardice of Sony and the big theater chains ticked me off and I’m really still annoyed.  Being out of town for the holidays, I also couldn’t make it Alamo Drafthouse (I would only give Sony my cash if Gabbing Geek Hero, Tim League and the Alamo Drafthouse benefited).  I don’t pirate stuff because that’s theft, so the only way for me to see it was to rent it on PPV.  No thanks, Sony!  That way the terrorists win!  But now, I can watch it Saturday to see what the fuss is all about.

Because what’s the point of having a giant, geeky list of all 64 movies I saw in 2014 if I’m not going to share it with my fellow geeks?  I’ve already listed my ten favorite movies of the year.  And I got some great therapy by blasting what I considered the ten worst movies of the year.

A Gabbing Geek post where one of the Geeks pretends to be smart…

Remember when scientists thought there was indirect proof that there might be some planets outside our solar system?  Well thanks to sciencey scientists, we now know of over 1000 exoplanets.  We even found two that were so Earthlike that the Interview is playing on VOD there.

The 2014 Razzies- Honoring Movies So Bad They’re Still Bad

Golden-Razzies-Awards

Ah, Award season.  When great movies are recognized by the Academy, Screen Actors Guild, New York Film Critics, and even the Golden Globes (even though the Globes are kinda equivalent to your stoner cousin in Tuscon…)  Then… there are the Razzies….

Quick Question: Is this the real Kim Jon Un or a screencap from The Interview? You have no idea, do you?  This is what happens when you use Facebook as your newspaper. I’ll bet you know what Frozen character you are, Mr. Buzz Feed!

As we have discussed here and on the Gabbing Geek podcast, there are fascinating strategic and financial implications of Sony releasing the Rogen/Franco comedy, The Interview “day and date.”
