Netflix Attempts To Keep Marvel Zombies Happy

punisher_jessica_jones

If you’re a fan of Marvel’s Netflix shows so far, it was a good weekend of news for you.  First came word that Netflix and Marvel were in talks to put a Punisher show into development based on strong word of mouth for his appearance in Daredevil season two…which hasn’t even aired yet.  The Punisher seems a natural fit for the grim and gritty urban crime fighting world that Netflix has established.  We’ll know when Daredevil season two begins on March 18th if they have successfully pulled off the Frank Castle character.  Previous big screen incarnations have ranged between acceptable to downright abysmal.

Next up, though it hasn’t gotten a lot of exposure in these parts because of reasons, Jessica Jones was excellent.  So it is not overly surprising that Netflix and Marvel have announced that Jessica Jones season two is now in the works.  There isn’t much more information than that at this point.  There has been some speculation that we could see it as early as the end of the year, pointing out the 11 month gap between DD seasons 1 and 2.  Jessica Jones season 1 dropped in November of last year.  So while it is possible, I’d expect it more than likely in early 2017.

In any case, with DD season two just two months away, Luke Cage due at some point this year and now JJ season two, Iron Fist and possibly The Punisher in the pipeline, this Marvel/Netflix relationship has really prospered.

And a little teaser for Jessica Jones Season 2 after the break…

The face of every Geek on at least some of the things on this list.

2016.  Did any of us think we’d live this long?  Yeah, probably.  We’re Geeks, not morbid.

So, what sort of Geek Entertainment has us here at Gabbing Geek at least a little curious?  See behind the cut, with some items getting some expert Geek Commentary from the Geek Guru himself, Jimmy Impossible.

Geek Review: Jessica Jones

jessica_jones_logob

Disney owns a lot of stuff right now.  It freaked me out a wee little bit last year when I stopped at a Disney Store last Christmas and was reminded they now have Star Wars, Marvel Comics, and the Muppets.

Point is, we here at Gabbing Geek have inadvertently ignored one of those properties because another one just put out a new movie.

Anyway, here’s some thoughts on the new Netflix series Jessica Jones.  SPOILERS after the cut.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars XXXII (Anthology Edition)

This cover is all lies.

There’s been quite a few short stories during these last few months of Secret Wars.  I’ve liked a handful of them, but a lot of them have missed the mark badly.  (Ryan would beg to differ, but we all know what Ryan’s like.)

I’ve already looked at Secret Wars Battleworld 1 and 2 and Secret Wars Journal Parts 1-3  in some detail.  After the cut I will finish those series with Secret Wars Battleworld #3, Secret Wars Battleworld #4, Secret Wars Journal #4 and Secret Wars Journal #5.  As well, I’ll also look at the equally unimpressive Secret Wars Secret Love #1.

Moon Knight? Really?

standard_fantastic

Daredevil has been a roaring success for Netflix, and with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist on the way, plus Elektra and the Punisher being added to Daredevil, it does seem to be a good place for Marvel’s street level heroes to get some exposure.

As it is, rumors suggest Netflix may be interested in Moon Knight for his own show.  Who is Moon Knight?  Answer after the cut.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars XXI (Master Of Kung Fu Edition)

master-of-kung-fu-1

As I’ve made my way through reading all the Secret Wars tie-ins, some titles naturally gravitated to the bottom of my “to read” pile for some reason or another.  Upon agreeing to work on the Power Rankings, I had to catch up on those “bottom of the pile” reads, and quick.  Some turned out to be true gems (Mrs. Deadpool and the Howling Commandos, Inhumans: Attilan Rising) while others turned out to be better than expected (M.O.D.O.K. Assassin, Master Of Kung-Fu).  (Where Monsters Dwell was in that list too.  While not a true gem, it is definitely better than expected and in the second tier of titles in the rankings.)

One of those titles has come to completion, and after the break we will look at the drunken adventures of Shang-Chi, the Master Of Kung-Fu.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars Part Seventeen (Last Days Edition)

captain-america-and-the-mighty-avengers-9

Marvel’s Last Days branded Secret Wars tie-ins are supposed to give us the stories surrounding “What will our heroes do with their final hours before it all ends?”  Unfortunately, most of these books have very little to do with Secret Wars.  While some deal with the final incursion and its affect on people across the globe, most just deal with wrapping up storylines from each solo title.

After the break I’ll look at Captain America and the Mighty Avengers #9, Punisher #19, Punisher #20, Ms. Marvel #16, Magneto #19, Magneto #20 and Black Widow #19 and their wildly varying degrees of tying into the main event.

Also, if you are like me and haven’t read all of Johnathon Hickman’s Avengers run leading up to Secret Wars, be sure to take Tom’s Road To Secret Wars course at gabbinggeekuniversity.com.  The reading materials are online here: Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,7.

And that course is a prerequisite to the other parts of this series: 1, 2, 34, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 1415, 16
