Geek Lit: The Girl From The Well

I’m generally not one for horror.  I was a jumpy kid, and horror movies–even dumb ones–were often too much for me.  I’ve gotten a bit better since then, but as much as I don’t care much for horror movies, I do greatly enjoy horror novels.  Why that is I cannot say, but it may be that there is something comforting about the page that isn’t as visually worrisome as the motion picture.

I recently read author Rin Chupeco’s debut novel The Girl from the Well.  Review and potential SPOILERS behind the cut.

Gabbing Geek Brings You Japan’s Latest Craze- 8.6 BAZOOKA!

Gabbing Geek is a global media empire.  A fan (and friend) from Japan, Naoko, sent the following message about a hot new act on the other side of the Pacific.  

Naoko writes, “Just wanted to share for the purpose of Gabbing Geek, 86 BAZOOKAA is trendy for young people.”

Personally, I am neither young nor speak Japanese, so I watched much of the video with what can only be described as beeildered amusement.  At about the 2 minute mark, though, I officially lost my shit!  Stick with it. It…is… awesome!

Akira Adaptation On Hold! (Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!)

AKIRA!!!!!!! For those of you that listened to our “Expanding Your Geek” (episode 8) on the podcast you will note that NONE of us loved the movie Akira. I don’t know, the anime film just wasn’t Oscar material. Maybe it was the wacko-jacko story line, or the lack of respect for female characters, or maybe it was because the whole thing was BAT-SHIT-CRAZY! But you’ll be interested to find out that despite the fact that we HATED the film, there are those out there that loved it. And it’s because of that said love that director Jaume Collet-Serra started talks of a reboot. Nooooooooooooooooooo!
