Obligatory Aquaman money shot for Watson.

(Editor’s Note: Let’s all be kind to Jimmy and pretend it is the week of May 20th.  He really does try very hard to get his work done on time.  But for someone with commitment issues (ask Ms. Impossible) he can’t seem to say “No” to any project that comes his way.  So remember, it’s May 20th, Convergence is not over, and Jimmy is awesome.  Thanks from Gabbing Geek.)

Hey everybody!  A couple of clunkers in this batch of issues as we finish up the penultimate week of Convergence.  I’m looking forward to next week when the finale gets released.  I’m sure it will all start making sense at that point.  I’m sure nothing crazy and continuity shattering will occur and everything in the New 52 will be just as we left it two months ago.

IMG_5447

Say hello to Michelle Rodriguez. You know the super star from epic movies like Fast & The Furious,  Resident Evil, and Avatar (and lest we not forget her run on the TV series LOST, quite possibly the best show EVAH!). From A Certain Point Of View: Political Perspective In Speculative Fiction

Awesome-Aquaman

Way back in the year 2000, I was snooping around the DC Comics message boards and came across a debate over who the various members of the Justice League at the time would vote for in the 2000 Presidential election  One particularly memorable individual insisted that all the various Leaguers would have obviously voted for George W. Bush except for that “treehugger” Aquaman.

There is one problem with this assumption:  Aquaman at the time couldn’t really vote in an American election.  He was the king of Atlantis.  You know, foreign citizen.  And given the way he was being written in his solo title at the time, it probably didn’t matter much to him who the president was.  Plus, there aren’t many trees to hug on the  bottom of the sea.  Oh, and he’s a fictional character.

Showing My Age: When People Talk Green Lantern I Don’t Immediately Think Of John Stewart

Ryan Reynolds - you know the difference between you and me? I make this look GOOD!
Ryan Reynolds – you know the difference between you and me? I make this look GOOD!

As a child of the 90s, um 80s, ok 70’s, I never grew up watching Justice League with John Stewart as a founding member.  Hal Jordan was my Green Lantern.  So he went a little crazy and destroyed the Green Lantern Corps.  Who hasn’t?

One person who appears to be a fan of John Stewart is current Fast and Furious star Tyrese Gibson. The Hollywood Reporter has taken notice that Gibson has posted over a dozen images of himself on Instagram made up as a Green Lantern. Check them out. Some are very cool.
