I’m back baby!  With a completely dated look at all things Secret Wars.  In this part we’ll examine Secret Wars #2, and two “Last Days” issues: Captain America And The Mighty Avengers #8 and Magneto #18.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars Part One

As if I don’t have enough to do with reading all of DC’s Convergence and Tom Kelly making me watch every DC animated series known to man, I’m also going to attempt to read all of Marvel’s Secret Wars.  While I’ll likely end up as a quivering blob like Weird Science’s brother by the time fall rolls around, let’s see how this goes.

I got lucky this week as there is really only one Secret Wars book, plus the Free Comic Book Day Secret Wars #0 prelude.  (I’ve heard rumors of the existence of an Armor Wars #1/2 that is exclusive to Toys R’ Us, but I have yet to lay my eyes on it.)  We’ll look at those two books after the break.  Be prepared for spoilers.

And The Award For The Longest and Most Unnecessary Secret Wars Post On Gabbing Geek Goes To…

To a 10 year old Jimmy Impossible, Secret Wars was right in his wheel house.  For one full year the best heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe would be together every month bashing skulls, having mountains dropped on them and bowing before Doom.  Though the tie-ins were subtle, this was really the first huge company wide event at either of the Big Two.  (sequart.org has a nice article comparing Secret Wars, Secret Wars II and Crisis on Infinite Earths and which is responsible for the rise of the endless Events that I keep getting suckered into, which seems like every few months.)

One of the biggest parts of Secret Wars, and in fact the reason for it’s existence, was a promotion for a toy line from Mattel.
