The Old West had some mighty impressive people. Lawmen, outlaws, railroad workers, prospectors, settlers, cattlemen, cowboys, Natives, women of ill repute, women of great repute, all were there. Many became legends.
One of those legends, though not as well known as he maybe should be, was Bass Reeves.
Remakes are always a controversial subject. A few weeks ago, I wrote about how a remake of my favorite Hitchcock film made my nervous, even though it was to be helmed by one of my favorite directors. I think that is why Roger Ebert once said that they shouldn’t remake great movies; they should remake movies with great premises which were poorly executed. Here are ten movies that fall between interesting stinkers and some of the most beloved classics of all time.
After such big hit opening weekends with Taken and American Sniper, we finally get a reminder of what January box office reports are SUPPOSED to look like. American Sniper continued to dominate the box office; pairing Oscar buzz and a weird Chik Fil A effect to stay at the top spot. Most of the new releases that it faced off with were not as well-received.
For a decade, Johnny Depp was box office gold. In the Pirate films, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Alice In Wonderland, the always eclectic Mr Depp found a way to blend his art house edge with box office gold. Seems those days are over.

Ah, Award season. When great movies are recognized by the Academy, Screen Actors Guild, New York Film Critics, and even the Golden Globes (even though the Globes are kinda equivalent to your stoner cousin in Tuscon…) Then… there are the Razzies….
I set out to see at least 100 new releases in 2014 as a kind of geek affectation/New Years Resolution. I wound up seeing 145! You can imagine there were some REALLY DREADFUL MOVIES in the mix. Don’t worry gentle jerkwads! I saw them so you didn’t have to. Here is my review of the 20 WORST movies of 2014!
