Paul Rudd was excited when Edgar Wright cast him to play the titular character in the upcoming Ant-Man film. Wright, famous for British comedies (generally starring Simin Pegg) such as Sean of the Dead and The World’s End had championed the project and crafted a script with collaborator Joe Cornish. Then it all went a haywire.
With Superhero movies becoming more and more popular and prevalent these days, it’s time to discuss the gender balance (or lack there of) we tend to see in such movies. We are familiar with the popularity of Batman, Superman, Spider-man, Ironman, Aquaman(? – if only to Watson), etc. But where do the female superheros fit in this male dominated franchise? With kick-ass characters like Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Blackwidow, and more…how have we failed to properly tip the scales so that movie goers are seeing equal representation on screen?

Ah. Now we get to the cream of the crop! The ten best films of 2014! Hope you enjoyed your year of films as much as I did mine. This was a strong year for movies; both blockbuster and arthouse. While there wasn’t an all-time Hall of Fame entry (like Dark Knight or Godfather), we did have many 5 star worthy films. Any of these ten films would have been a worthy choice for #1, in fact many of them even flirted with the top spot during the year, but when the dust settled here was the final list.
