Spider-Man Complete Chronology Update 10 (Spider-Man v Superman Edition)

SpiderMan Chronicles

In an era where Marvel and DC are spending most of their time and resources duking it out for supremacy at the box office, it may be hard to believe that it wasn’t that long ago the Big Two had quite a run of crossovers between their respective super hero universes.

The 90’s gave rise to crossovers such as Batman/Daredevil, Batman/Punisher, Batman/Captain America, Batman/Spider-Man…hmm…I guess they should more accurately be called Marvel and Batman crossovers.

Prior to that 90’s boom however, the crossing over of characters between the two companies was few and far between.  After the break we’ll look at two of those starring the two companies biggest hitters (apologies to Batman): Superman and Spider-Man.

As usual, spoilers follow from here on out if you’ve missed out on the last 50 years of Spider-Man and are just getting started.

ICYMI: Fan Made Death Of Spider-Man Motion Comic

death_of_spider-man_motion_comic

This morning I briefly wrote about the death of the Ultimate Comics Spider-Man and this afternoon I stumbled upon this awesome fan made motion comic that covers the storyline from Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #158-160 from 2011.  I personally didn’t love the story, but this motion comic is quite awesome.  Watch it after the break.

Spiders, Spiders Everywhere Part 6

msmarvel1
I’m not sure what Mr. Marvel has to do with Spider-Man, but they are sure milking it with this cover. The ad copy, her fighting Spidey foe The Scorpion and the disembodied heads of MJ, JJJ and Peter himself.

Continuing my Friday afternoon filler with cameos that don’t quite make the cut to be included in the  Spider-Man Complete Chronology.

After the break see such groundbreaking panels as:

  • Peter saying hello!
  • Peter saying nothing!
  • Peter saying nothing, but thinking something!
  • Peter in someone else’s book for no reason other than his Spider-Sense to go off!

Gwen Stacy. I Really Don’t Care.

Actually, Spidey, basic physics and biology tells us your web line snapped her neck, so…

One of the most momentous moments in Spider-Man’s history was the night the Green Goblin tossed Gwen Stacy off the George Washington Bridge and she died.  This moment infused countless Spider-Man stories ever since.

For me, that’s a problem.  The issue in question came out in the summer of 1973.  I was born in the fall of 1974.  Gwen Stacy has been dead longer than I’ve been alive, but then it seems like every Spider-Man writer at a certain point had to to the “poor Gwen Stacy story”.  I really hated those.
