Spoilers After The Break: Spider-Man #3 Review

Spider-Man-003

I think I’ve read every appearance of Miles Morales.  I’m working on reading every appearance of Peter Parker.  But now that the Ultimate and 616 universes have been blended together, it brings up some questions.  More on this and Spider-Man #3 (with spoilers) after the break.

Spoilers After The Break: Uncanny Avengers #8 Review

uncanny_avengers_9_cover

The only Avengers book I’ve been reading regularly since the end of Secret Wars is All-New All-Different Avengers.  That is mostly because of the presence of Miles Morales.  (I read Uncanny Avengers for about 5 minutes before Peter Parker/Spider-Man left the team.)   And much like I mentioned in my Spider-Women Alpha review, I’m a sucker for crossovers, especially those that interrupt my regular monthly readings with tie-ins.  As such, I’ve been reading the Avengers Standoff event.  Some spoilers and thoughts on the latest chapter, Uncanny Avengers #8, after the break.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars XXXII (Anthology Edition)

This cover is all lies.

There’s been quite a few short stories during these last few months of Secret Wars.  I’ve liked a handful of them, but a lot of them have missed the mark badly.  (Ryan would beg to differ, but we all know what Ryan’s like.)

I’ve already looked at Secret Wars Battleworld 1 and 2 and Secret Wars Journal Parts 1-3  in some detail.  After the cut I will finish those series with Secret Wars Battleworld #3, Secret Wars Battleworld #4, Secret Wars Journal #4 and Secret Wars Journal #5.  As well, I’ll also look at the equally unimpressive Secret Wars Secret Love #1.

Spiders, Spiders Everywhere Part 6

msmarvel1
I’m not sure what Mr. Marvel has to do with Spider-Man, but they are sure milking it with this cover. The ad copy, her fighting Spidey foe The Scorpion and the disembodied heads of MJ, JJJ and Peter himself.

Continuing my Friday afternoon filler with cameos that don’t quite make the cut to be included in the  Spider-Man Complete Chronology.

After the break see such groundbreaking panels as:

  • Peter saying hello!
  • Peter saying nothing!
  • Peter saying nothing, but thinking something!
  • Peter in someone else’s book for no reason other than his Spider-Sense to go off!

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars XXVI

ant_man_last_days_1

Not that we need more Secret Wars tie-ins (they are at over 200 and counting), but I feel like Marvel has wasted most opportunities with their Last Days branded books.  None appear to be of consequence (Silver Surfer is making an attempt to be, but likely won’t), few deal directly with the events of the multiverse ending incursions (Magneto, Ms. Marvel) and the rest either use it as an unnecessary framing device or completely ignore it (Punisher, Black Widow).

After the cut I will have a quick look at the following:  Ant-Man: Last Days #1, Silver Surfer #13, Silver Surfer #14, Black Widow #20, Ms. Marvel #17, Ms. Marvel #18, Magneto #21, Loki Agent Of Asgard #17, Spider-Woman #10 and Silk #7.

That’s a lot more issues than I usually cover in an update, but they should be short as I really only cover them in regards to Secret Wars, and most of them had little relevance. Note, this way be spoilers.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars XXIII (Inhumans Edition)

inhumans-attilan-rising-1

I’ve never cared much about the Inhumans.  And I’m willing to bet if Marvel had the movie and tv rights to the X-Men, we wouldn’t be seeing the massive Inhumans push from them that we are seeing today.  High profile comic launches, essentially the entire season two and looks like season three storylines of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a major motion picture in 2019 (which seems way too far off and they should be capatilizing on what they are setting up with AoS now, but anyway…), everything is coming up Inhumans.

After the cut I’ll look at the first four issues of Inhumans series from this beast of an event called Secret Wars.  It’s another of those series I had little interest in, but turned out to be quite good.  (Currently holding the number ten spot on our Secret Wars Power Rankings.)

The Secret Wars Power Rankings – August 25, 2015

powerThe best part of Marvel’s Secret Wars is that virtually every facet of the massive event starts with an issue #1.  This presents 48 different jumping on points.  Some stories may be based on characters you know, some series may be from another event or world you’ve read about, but all of them are different enough that you can pick up the series and start reading.  With that in mind, we’ve harnessed the powers of Jimmy Impossible (who’s actually reading the entire event) to power rank every single Secret Wars series.  Each week the rankings will change as new issues come out, so come take a look at the latest power rankings after the break!

UFC Champion Captain Marvel?

rousey_captain_marvel_1

There seems to be a growing movement on the interwebs to give UFC champion Ronda Rousey a shot at playing Carol Danvers/Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel in Marvel’s 2018 movie.

While she may somewhat look the part and can obviously kick major ass…have you seen Furious 7?  I’m sorry, she can’t act.  But check out the picture above and more after the break of some artists depictions of her as the Marvel Heroine.

(Ronda, if you see this, please don’t come and beat me up.)

I love love love Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers is possibly one of my favorite characters in the Marvel Universe (and soon to be MCU). Thanks to Jillian of Clint and Jillian Cosplay & Photography, we see a stunning rendition of Captain Marvel at her best! She truly is amazing! Carol Corps all the way!
