Well, the day is finally here.  The last issue of Secret Wars is finally in our grubby little hands or sitting digitally on our computers, tablets or other electronic devices.  It’s been a long time coming.  I’ll look at the finale in all its spoiler-y glory after the cut.

Unfortunately for me (and probably for you), this is not my last Secret Wars post.  I still have some odds and ends to finish up my walkthrough, namely twenty or so issues that I haven’t covered.  (Excluding the Toys R Us exclusive giveaway Armor Wars #0.5…which I couldn’t find a copy of first or last.)

So, not unexpectedly I’m way behind in going through all of Secret Wars.  But give me a break, there are over 200 issues and counting to this event.  At least the Secret Wars main series being so extremely late and now extended an issue gives me until at least December, if not 2016, to finish up “on time”.

After the cut I’ll take a spoiler filled look at the latest issue of the main series: Secret Wars #6.  As well, I’ll finish off my review of the series Old Man Logan.  I previously looked at Parts 1 and 2 and in this post I’ll examine Old Man Logan #3, Old Man Logan #4 and Old Man Logan #5.  I’ll save spoilers until after the cut, but let’s just say, we have another disappointing ending to add to the pile.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars Part Seven (X-Men Edition)

In the late 80’s/early 90’s unless you were wearing a red and blue spider suit, nothing was as big as the X-Men for Marvel.  With the collector boom in full swing, issues were selling millions of copies.  Artists like Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri and (shudder) Rob Liefeld were making their mark and establishing the popularity that would allow them to later launch Image Comics.  And an animated series was released that would become one of the most honored and celebrated this side of Batman: The Animated Series.

The writers, artists and editors of the X-Men corner of the Marvel Universe also had the related title crossovers nailed.  Whereas now we seem to wait for each company wide event, at that time is was more a question of what the next X-crossover would be?  Inferno, X-Tinction Agenda, X-Cutioner’s Song, Age of Apocolypse to name a few.  While some would crossover into other titles, these were X-Events to the core.

In this post we’ll look at a couple of books inspired by those crossovers (Inferno #1,  X-Tinction Agenda #1), a continuation of that animated series (X-Men ’92 #1) and one outlier from the early 80’s that really set the stage for all X-crossovers to come (Years of Future Past #1).

Secret Wars continues to build momentum and the tie-ins that I’ve read have mostly been interesting so far.  Most of them feature titles you will likely be familiar with from Marvel crossover events of the past.  It’s interesting to see how Marvel is handling these tie-ins as some seem to be direct sequels (eg. X-Tinction Agenda, Civil War (I’m assuming)) while others just seem to build off the name and aspects of those original events but are really not related (eg. Planet Hulk, Armor Wars).

After the break we’ll look at the latest and best issue of the main mini-series so far, issue three.  Two tie-in series that seem to be in the “related in name only” department in Armor Wars #1 and Infinity Gauntlet #1.  And then take a trip to a slightly skewed version of the future than we’ve seen previously in Secret Wars 2099 #1.  As usual, spoilers will be prevalent.
