Spectre Number One At The Box Office. Still No Madame Xanadu Film.

I have to admit, I’m shocked that a 2nd or 3rd tier hero like The Spectre even has a major motion picture, let alone one that would make the top of the box office.  Tom would be a better one to talk all things Spectre since I’ve really never read much about him, but Tom is on double secret probation for his Russian box office report last week.

[Editor’s note: JIMMY!!!!]

What?  That Russian report was…you’re not talking about that are you…why are you looking at me like that…I didn’t…wait…Spectre…not The Spectre.  Whoops!  Anyway, let’s see how the new Bond film, not the second film in the new DC Cinematic Universe did after the break.

Gabbing Geek Reviews: The Martian [Spoiler-Free]

martian

The Martian hit theaters this week, and we couldn’t be more excited here at Gabbing Geek. For those of you that didn’t listen to our book review of Andy Weir’s  New York Time’s best seller, here is a quick synopsis:

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew (Jessica Chastain, Michael Pena, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, & Aksel Hennie). But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet with only the NASA crew (Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean & Donald Glover) as his source of communication.

Does director Ridley Scott do The Martian justice? Or is this just another failed mission to Mars? Find out what the geeks think after the break:

What Movies Could Sneak Into 2015’s Top Ten Grossing Films? (or “How Bad is Ryan’s B.O.?”)

jurassic-world

In a January article by Gabbing Geek’s own Ryan Garcia, he predicted the 2015 Top Ten Grossing films (domestic).  Rule of thumb says that to crack the top ten,  a film will need to surpass $200M+. Some of Ryan’s picks were right.  Some were wrong.    Where will we wind up and what could spoil Ryan’s top ten list?

If you haven’t read The Martian yet, what are you waiting for?  Go do it right now.  We’ll wait.

You’re back!  Great.  After the break, check out two viral videos that have begun to make the rounds in promotion of the movie.  Both are from the perspective of the Ares crew as they prepare for their journey to Mars.

No real spoilers for those that still haven’t read the book (tsk tsk) but the clips are sure to elicit a few smiles from those that have.  They give me renewed faith that Ridley Scott is going to pull this off successfully.

The Martian is due in theaters in 56 sols.  (Or October 2nd for those still on Earth.)

Exclusive: The Martian Test Screening! Update: Taken Down

martianWith the release of the first trailer for Ridley Scott’s The Martian, we geeks are all looking forward to the movie itself and whether Ridley Scott can rebound from some recent stinkers.  We were beyond excited when we heard from someone who just this week was fortunate enough to attend a test screening of The Martian.  This was a working print but it seems like the studio is interested in seeing what they have on hand, hence the early viewing.  Given that within days of this test screening they moved the release date from November 25, 2015 to October 2, 2015, I’m guessing the studio is sensing a winner.  Find out what our agent on the inside had to say about the test screening after the break!  Don’t worry–it’s spoiler free!  Update after the break.
