Spoilers After The Break: Spider-Man #3 Review

Spider-Man-003

I think I’ve read every appearance of Miles Morales.  I’m working on reading every appearance of Peter Parker.  But now that the Ultimate and 616 universes have been blended together, it brings up some questions.  More on this and Spider-Man #3 (with spoilers) after the break.

Bento Review: Edge Of Spider-Verse

23439926

Comic Bento apparently wanted me to horn on the storied work of one James “Jimmy” Impossible, who wrote extensively on all things Spider-Verse.  I mean, he wrote seven long posts chronicling every inch of Spider-Verse.  That was before he went insane trying to do the same with Convergence and the entirety of Secret Wars.  See the efforts of his madness with parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Heck, Jimmy covered all the issues in this trade in the third part of his work there.  But I’m writing a review, while Jimmy was giving a plot summary/commentary.  That’s my excuse and I am sticking to it.

The Secret Wars Power Rankings – Final Standings

power

Well, it is finally over!  Ok, it was finally over back in the beginning of January, but I’ve finally finished my write ups.  With that done, after the break check out our (well, mostly my) final rankings for all the Secret Wars series.

It was a huge event and most will not be insane enough to read it all.  If you are interested in the main story, you can mostly get by with just reading the main series.  Very few of the other series tie into the main event, and those that do are recapped as needed in the lead book.

Outside of that, I’d recommend giving any of the top 15 a shot.  As for the rest, you can likely just pick and choose the series that interest you.  As said, most have no ties to the core book outside of Doom being God and the story taking place in a domain of Battleworld.  And some barely bother with that.

Let us know what’s ranked too high or too low.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 55 (Spider-Island Edition)

spider-island_2

If you’ve spent any amount of time reading articles at Gabbing Geek then you probably know I may have an unhealthy obsession with Spider-Man.  So it only seems fitting that for my (at long last!) final Secret Wars post, it would be Spidey related.

After the break a continuation of the Spider-Island story line with the usual twist on the ending, “what if Spider-Man hadn’t saved the day?”

Bento Review: Superior Iron Man Volume One

Sample page showing Tony being a dink.
Sample page showing Tony being a dink to Daredevil.

My next Bento Box came in with four graphic novels themed on the “gray,” where good guys may be bad and bad guys may be good.  Once again, I’m reading them in the order the card inside suggested, so that means up first is Superior Iron Man Volume One:  Infamous.

At Long Last, Miles Morales Makes His Prime Marvel “Debut” Today In Spider-Man #1

spider-man-miles-morales

We’ve known for quite some time that Miles Morales would be spinning his webs in the Prime Marvel Universe after the events of Secret Wars and the destruction of the Ultimate Universe.  In fact, Miles has been swinging around his new universe for a while now, having made appearances in other books, namely All-New All-Different Avengers for the past 3 months.

Which brings us to today’s release of Spider-Man #1.  Marvel has been staggering their new releases post Secret Wars for many reasons.  One, though they will downplay it as much as possible, the lengthy delays of Secret Wars itself.  Two, they wanted to spread their new number ones out so that they weren’t clobbering each other ala DC’s New 52 (and it looks like their upcoming Reboot Rebirth project.)  But third, and maybe most inportantly for this book, they wanted to get the band back together.  What I mean by that is Spider-Man #1 sees the reunion of Miles creators Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli.

As for the issue itself, I found it a bit uneven.  If you are a fan of Miles you will likely be happy with it, but several aspects of it came off a bit strange to me.  I’ll dive into them more after the cut as things will get a bit spoilery.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 49 (It’s Finally Over Edition)

secret_wars_9_cover

Well, the day is finally here.  The last issue of Secret Wars is finally in our grubby little hands or sitting digitally on our computers, tablets or other electronic devices.  It’s been a long time coming.  I’ll look at the finale in all its spoiler-y glory after the cut.

Unfortunately for me (and probably for you), this is not my last Secret Wars post.  I still have some odds and ends to finish up my walkthrough, namely twenty or so issues that I haven’t covered.  (Excluding the Toys R Us exclusive giveaway Armor Wars #0.5…which I couldn’t find a copy of first or last.)

Need A Refresher On Secret Wars Before The Finale On Wednesday?

secret_wars_9_cover
That sliver with Spider-Man actually has Superman’s toe in it as well. Marvel is making sure all the bases are covered in the All-New All-Different universe.

Each issue of a comic book series is usually a month apart.  So if Secret Wars #1 came out in May 2015, January 2016 should see the release of…Secret Wars #9.  Which is the exact issue that is coming out in two days time!  I’m not sure why everyone is complaining about this series being excessively delayed.  Looks like it is right on schedule.  🙂

But if you do need a reminder of what happened in issues #1-8, or you never picked up those issues and want to start with #9 for some reason or you’re Jenny and are just curious about Secret Wars but will never read it, check out the Marvel produced video after the break.  Secret Wars, The Story So Far…

It’s like looking into a mirror of insanity as I feel the same way Magneto while trying to finish this up.

No theme to this post, just trying to clue up some odds and ends.  After the cut I will take a look at series final issues: Red Skull #3, Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #4-5, Captain Marvel And The Carol Corps #3-4 and Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars #4

Be sure to check out our latest Secret Wars Power Rankings, which also features links to the other parts of my read through.
