Ok, who had 2015 on the board for “Beastie Boys song in a Star Trek trailer”? Great choice though. Love “Sabotage”. I wonder if they are trying to tell us something? Hmmm…

Among the many interesting “what if’s” that we can ask in regards to the recent Ant-Man, there is the question of how the movie would have turned out had the original director, Edgar Wright, finished the movie he’d worked on for so long. Wright still got a story and script credit for the work, and had parted ways due to some sort of creative differences with Marvel Films. Wright had been linked to the project for ages, well before The Avengers hit the big screen, such that many hoped or assumed Wright’s longtime friend and collaborator Simon Pegg might have been cast as Hank Pym.
Why would anyone assume that? Well, you’d need to see the Cornetto Trilogy to get that.
Simon Pegg, star of some really great geek properties, had a very interesting (and nuanced) criticism of the rise of geek properties at the expense of other genres.
Geeks love Monty Python and Simon Pegg. Hey, they got a Simon Pegg movie with the surviving Pythons doing voice work, and Robin Williams’ last role as the voice of Pegg’s dog? Well, let’s take a look at that trailer…
There are a lot of comparisons to Star Wars with the first two films. People said JJ Abrams really just made Star Wars films out of the Star Trek universe (Disney must have agreed he knew how to make a SW film…). Well, now it looks like the Trek team wants to turn the ship around.

The revolving space door that is the rebooted Star Trek universe now has a new co-writer. Scotty himself, Simon Pegg will co-write Star Trek 3 with television producer Doug Jung. I loved Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, so Pegg is no stranger to pleasing the Geekdom. But the constant upheaval around this project since Abrams left to do some Disney movie, is not giving me very many warm and fuzzy feelings. Hopefully they can get back on track and continue the resurgence of the new Trek films.
