A Spoiler Filled Walk On The Great Web Of Spider-Verse, Part One

Spider-Verse_DellOtto_Banner

When the comic book scholars of the future look back on Spider-Verse they may view the crossover as a disappointment. I can see that. There really isn’t much meat on the bone here. Most issues are generally the same:

  • introduce or revisit a Spider-Man from an alternate dimension
  • Inheritors attack
  • multiversal Spider-Men show up to help
  • some live, some die, the survivors escape
  • Inheritors move onto the next dimension in search of another meal

Pretty standard and repetitive stuff. But to take this view, is to miss the whole fun of Spider-Verse. The interaction of all these Spiders new and old amongst themselves and the Inheritors. Checking in on old favorites. Seeing the fate of Spider-Men you grew up watching on TV. I’m sure we’ll have Spider-Man multiverse crossovers again in the future (*cough*Secret Wars*cough*) but likely never to this degree again.

Hail Hydra! And Other Spider Related Happenings In This Weeks Comics Across The Multiversity

comics2015-02-18

Continuing my seldom read (hey Johnathon!) run down of three new comics I’ve read this week.  I keep the variety rolling with Multiversity and…hmm….two Spider titles.  I really need to branch out my interests.

This Is The End. This Is The End Of Spider-Verse.

comics2015-02-11

Given all the goings on this week with a certain web-head and something about his next movie appearances, it seemed fitting to concentrate my mini reviews on all things Spider-Man and of course, Spider-Verse.  So without further ado, let’s talk about…X-Men! May The A-Force Be With You. (Or No Star Wars/Marvel Crossover For You!)

No Watson, the A is not a reference to their cup size.
No Watson, the A is not a reference to their cup size.

Well, it was a fun 12 hours or so of speculation, but one of the classified zones on Battleworld will not be the Star Wars universe.  The “Force” in Marvel’s announcement is not Midicholrian based, but in reference to A-Force…which I guess is some amalgamation of Avengers and X-Force.  By the looks of the cover, it is a team led by She-Hulk and comprised of, well, seems like every female hero in the Marvel Universe.  Girl Power!

And The Award For The Longest and Most Unnecessary Secret Wars Post On Gabbing Geek Goes To…

secret_wars_marvel_zombies

To a 10 year old Jimmy Impossible, Secret Wars was right in his wheel house.  For one full year the best heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe would be together every month bashing skulls, having mountains dropped on them and bowing before Doom.  Though the tie-ins were subtle, this was really the first huge company wide event at either of the Big Two.  (sequart.org has a nice article comparing Secret Wars, Secret Wars II and Crisis on Infinite Earths and which is responsible for the rise of the endless Events that I keep getting suckered into, which seems like every few months.)

One of the biggest parts of Secret Wars, and in fact the reason for it’s existence, was a promotion for a toy line from Mattel.
