Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars XXII

Secret-Wars-5-cover-Alex-Ross

Much like the publishing of Secret Wars itself, my read through has fallen behind schedule.  Nothing of the epic Convergence proportions (yet)…but I still have a lot of catching up to do over the next few weeks.

After the cut I share my thoughts on Secret Wars #5, Loki: Agent of Asgard #15, A-Force #2, A-Force #3, Secret Wars 2099 #3 and Secret Wars 2099 #4.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars Part Twenty

infinity-gauntlet-2

Much like my trip through DC’s Convergence, I’ve fallen woefully behind schedule.  At the very least I am caught up on reading everything.  Writing about them is another story.  I’ve also been pretty busy with our latest pet project: The Secret Wars Power Rankings.

After the break I’ll take a look at Infinity Gauntlet #2, Weirdworld #1, Weirdworld #2, Red Skull #1, Ultimate End #3 and very briefly touch on Giant Size Little Marvel AVX #1, Giant Size Little Marvel AVX #2 and Giant Size Little Marvel AVX #3.

DC and Marvel Character “Similarities”

2wWA4bC

Marvel and DC both have many characters that share strong similarities with their cross-company rival.  Sometimes it is a coincidence.  Two people have the same idea, no matter how novel, independent of each other.  Sometimes it is just because there are only so many archetypes.  Of course there is going to be some nearly identical characters.  Sometimes they aren’t even that similar.  We just want to make this list longer.  Other times, they are 100%, complete rip offs.  When DC/Marvel did the Amalgamation back in the 90’s, they could have just used the original.

See what you think after the break.

Podcast Reaction: Villains Edition

loki-easter-egg-costume

This week the podcast came out a day early, but I got a new Kindle Fire and don’t know yet how to download the show before going to work to listen during my lunch break.  And no, downloading at work isn’t an option.  Because reasons.  There are some, but I won’t go into them.  Anyway, here’s the podcast reaction.

I don’t really have anything else to add to the discussion of The Martian.  It’s a great book, and I gave a SPOILER-FREE review for it elsewhere.  Like right here.

Instead, let’s talk about how to make a good villain.

Awesome Cosplay Of The Day: THANOS

san-diego-comic-con-2015-ign-cosplay-photos-001jpg-2e185e_765w

San Diego Comic Con sure did bring out all the wonderful Cosplay – and we’ve featured them the past few days on Gabbing Geek. But now that the convention is over, that doesn’t mean we can’t still highlight some of the best – like this Thanos. I don’t know who created this amazing replica, but credit goes to this cosplayer for making an amazing costume. All the way down to the gigantic feet!

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars Part Eleven

Secret-Wars-4-cover

Well I’m the only one in the office today (because Canada), so I need to produce all our content, hence the day has been mostly filled with videos and pictures since I’m not Tom Kelly and can’t write columns in my sleep like that chick in Tommyknockers.  That was a great book.  Hey Watson, that’s a book I read.  Jackass.

With that in mind, let’s fill this slot with a look at Wednesday’s Secret Wars #4.  Keep in mind that after the break there will be spoilers.  I’ll see if I can conference in Ryan and Tom for their thoughts as they drive to the Cape or the Hampton’s or Venice Beach or wherever it is the cool kids are these days.

Also, if you are like me and haven’t read all of Johnathon Hickman’s Avengers run leading up to Secret Wars, be sure to take Tom’s Road To Secret Wars course at gabbinggeekuniversity.com.  The reading materials are online here: Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four, Part Five, Part Six and Part Seven.

And that course is a prerequisite to the other parts of this series: Part One, Part Two, Part Three,Part Four, Part Five, Part Six, Part Seven, Part Eight, Part Nine, Part Ten

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars Part Six

fantastic-four-319
Editor’s Note: Jimmy, not that Secret Wars 3!!!

Secret Wars continues to build momentum and the tie-ins that I’ve read have mostly been interesting so far.  Most of them feature titles you will likely be familiar with from Marvel crossover events of the past.  It’s interesting to see how Marvel is handling these tie-ins as some seem to be direct sequels (eg. X-Tinction Agenda, Civil War (I’m assuming)) while others just seem to build off the name and aspects of those original events but are really not related (eg. Planet Hulk, Armor Wars).

After the break we’ll look at the latest and best issue of the main mini-series so far, issue three.  Two tie-in series that seem to be in the “related in name only” department in Armor Wars #1 and Infinity Gauntlet #1.  And then take a trip to a slightly skewed version of the future than we’ve seen previously in Secret Wars 2099 #1.  As usual, spoilers will be prevalent.

Awesome Cosplay Of The Day: NEBULA

creative-cosplay-karin-olava-as-nebula-6500be4a-c240-4515-82bd-cc3da4a75753-png-167756

Nebula from Guardian’s of the Galaxy get’s a bad wrap – I mean, she only really wanted to be loved by her father Thanos, what’s so bad about trying to rule the world in between daddy hugs? Well – here at Gabbing Geek we promote the villains, as long as they are awesome – just like Karin Olava. Her cosplay of Nebula is so spot on, it’s hard to tell that she wasn’t actually in the movie! See more OUT OF THIS WORLD pics after the break:

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars Part Three (Friday Filler Edition)

deadpools-secret-secret-wars-1

So we needed content today and I’ve read a couple of Secret Wars books, so I put two and two together and came up with one.  (Column that is.  #jennymath.)

After the break, a quick spoilery look at A-Force #1 and Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars #1.  And if you guys behave yourselves, maybe a little bonus book thrown in for your reading pleasure.
