We’re less than a week away from the debut of new X-Files episodes. Who ever thought I’d be typing that in 2016? After the cut, check out a new trailer with a tonne of new footage including everyone’s favorite Cigarette Smoking Man.
In other news, series creator Chris Carter revealed that he has already written a third X-Files movie. Whether it ever sees the light of day will likely depend on the success of this six new episodes, and of course a commitment from the two main stars.
Mulder and Scully are back! But they might be a little out of touch with the world today. After the break, check out this early preview of the reunion as shown last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

As I mentioned in our 2016 anticipation column I’m trying to keep my expectations low for the new 6 episodes of The X-Files that will start airing on January 24th. But after the break, check out the opening minute of the show which gives a very, very brief recap of the series. 2016. Did any of us think we’d live this long? Yeah, probably. We’re Geeks, not morbid.

The entertainment industry has often used blatant rip-offs to make money. Everybody knows this. One successful movie, TV show, indie singer, etc, will lead to a slew of copycats that are often lesser versions of the original.
However, sometimes that look can be deceiving. Though originally appearing to be something of an X-Files rip-off, the sci-fi drama Fringe soon evolved into something just as good, and in many ways better, than the prior show that it turned out it had little in common with beyond some superficial similarities.
It is good to be a Geek in this day and age in many ways. Science fiction and fantasy are big on the big and small screen. Superheroes are flying everywhere. The most pirated show on TV is an epic fantasy. Special effects have finally allowed even lower budgeted productions to approximate the sort of things that were previously only capable in cartoons.
But streaming services also allow Geeks the opportunity to see attempts at Geek Culture from the past. Currently, Netflix is carrying one of the earliest attempts at Geek TV, the influential-but-short-lived Kolchak: The Night Stalker.
