Spoilers After The Break: Uncanny Avengers #8 Review

uncanny_avengers_9_cover

The only Avengers book I’ve been reading regularly since the end of Secret Wars is All-New All-Different Avengers.  That is mostly because of the presence of Miles Morales.  (I read Uncanny Avengers for about 5 minutes before Peter Parker/Spider-Man left the team.)   And much like I mentioned in my Spider-Women Alpha review, I’m a sucker for crossovers, especially those that interrupt my regular monthly readings with tie-ins.  As such, I’ve been reading the Avengers Standoff event.  Some spoilers and thoughts on the latest chapter, Uncanny Avengers #8, after the break.

Marvel’s Birthday Gift To Me: Spider-Man In New Civil War Trailer!

civil_war_spider-man
Expect to see this picture a lot. Spider-Man!

I’m too excited to even look too closely at the suit yet.  Classic Spidey, not sure what I think about the flairs.  I like that his eye slots are animated…which make no sense “real life” wise, but is typical Spidey.

Oh, yeah, the new trailer itself is awesome and you can check it out after the cut.

Spider-Man!

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars 55 (Spider-Island Edition)

spider-island_2

If you’ve spent any amount of time reading articles at Gabbing Geek then you probably know I may have an unhealthy obsession with Spider-Man.  So it only seems fitting that for my (at long last!) final Secret Wars post, it would be Spidey related.

After the break a continuation of the Spider-Island story line with the usual twist on the ending, “what if Spider-Man hadn’t saved the day?”

Super Bowl 50 – Captain America: Civil War

civilwar3

The Cap 3 commercial after the break is short but gives us a clear drawing of lines between the Avengers in the upcoming Civil War.  Still no sign of a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars XXXIV

marvel_zombies_2

I guess I missed an opportunity here by not getting this pushed out for Halloween as it features everyone’s current favorite undead, the Marvel Zombies.

After the cut, I’ll finish off two series with a spoilerly look at Marvel Zombies #2, Marvel Zombies #3, Marvel Zombies #4, Age of Ultron Vs Marvel Zombies #3 and Age of Ultron Vs Marvel Zombies #4.

Be sure to check out our latest Secret Wars Power Rankings, which also features links to the other parts of my read through.

But they’re pretty good.  And also a reminder that almost everyone in the Marvel Universe is in this movie.  Check them out after the cut.

The movie was iffy at best, but Age of Ultron did have some incredible character designs.

DC and Marvel Character “Similarities”

2wWA4bC

Marvel and DC both have many characters that share strong similarities with their cross-company rival.  Sometimes it is a coincidence.  Two people have the same idea, no matter how novel, independent of each other.  Sometimes it is just because there are only so many archetypes.  Of course there is going to be some nearly identical characters.  Sometimes they aren’t even that similar.  We just want to make this list longer.  Other times, they are 100%, complete rip offs.  When DC/Marvel did the Amalgamation back in the 90’s, they could have just used the original.

See what you think after the break.

Jimmy Attempts To Read All Of Secret Wars Part Fourteen (Spider-Man Edition)

spider-island-1

If you’ve read Gabbing Geek for any more than 8 minutes you probably know that I am a big Spider-Man fan.  Like, super big.  Like, ridiculous levels.  So it’s actually somewhat surprising it’s taken me fourteen Secret Wars posts to dedicate one to my favorite hyphen-ed hero.

After the break I’ll look at Spider-Island #1, Spider Verse #2, Spider-Verse #3 and Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #2.  (And yes, I’m aware of the irony that Spider-Man barely appears or doesn’t appear at all or is dead in 3/4 of those books.)

Also, if you are like me and haven’t read all of Johnathon Hickman’s Avengers run leading up to Secret Wars, be sure to take Tom’s Road To Secret Wars course at gabbinggeekuniversity.com.  The reading materials are online here: Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four, Part Five, Part Six and Part Seven.

And that course is a prerequisite to the other parts of this series: Part One, Part Two, Part Three,Part Four, Part Five, Part Six, Part Seven, Part Eight, Part Nine, Part Ten, Part Eleven, Part Twelve, Part Thirteen
