Our latest podcast looks back at the San Diego Comic Con with a fun twist! Give it a listen right this very second or jump after the break to find out more! So much geek news!
Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and current Walking Dead star Norman Reedus have been working on a movie together called Air. It also stars Djimon Hounsou and is set for release in theatres and on demand in just a months time.
Watch the new trailer that debuted at Comic-Con after the break. I don’t know that this will light the box office on fire, but it should have the target audience interested.
We finally get an extended look at the upcoming (next month!!!) zombie spin-off Fear The Walking Dead. After the break, two short teasers and the first extended preview.
Mike Carey has given us a new form of zombie. That’s hard to do in this day and age with slow zombies (Walking Dead) and fast zombies (Boneys from Warm Bodies), viral zombies (28 Days Later) and pathogen zombies (all the rest). But now we have a brand new form of zombie: fungal zombie! In The Girl With All The Gifts, Mike Carey (famed writer of comic books such as Lucifer, X-Men: Legacy, and The Unwritten) brings us a world where a fungus, Ophiocordyceps unilateralis (a very real fungus that infects insects and takes over their brains), has infected humans turning them into zombies (called Hungries in the book, the Z word is never mentioned).
The books follows an infected girl, Melanie, who has somehow retained her mental abilities while still infected with the fungus that makes her crave flesh. The book is an epic journey around London and is now being turned into a movie (of a sort) starring Glenn Close called She Who Brings Gifts. Mr. Carey was kind enough to give Gabbing Geek an exclusive interview and provide some never-before-heard insights into his book, movie, and new world he’s created. There are spoilers after the break, but if you don’t mind or have already read the book he gives us some fantastic, never before revealed information. Jump after the break for all the Hungry goodness!
I think someone forgot to tell the people behind Fear The Walking Dead that teasers are supposed to get you excited about the show. After the break is another short clip, which doesn’t do a whole lot to entice anyone to watch.
I guess when you know you have such a hard core built in audience that will watch regardless, you don’t need to get uptake on the new show.
Fear The Walking Dead has really turned into that girl that you spend the night eyeing at the other side of the bar. She gives you a smile, you buy her a drink, she invites you over. You spend hours talking loudly into her ear at close proximity because the hip hop music makes normal conversation impossible. As the small talk continues you notice the smell of her hair. She touches your arm and you touch the small of her back as you pull each other closer with each sentence.
Then 2AM comes and she’s all “I’m outta here with my friends” and the next thing you know you are with your married buddies eating hot dogs from a street vendor that you just know you would NOT be eating at any other hour of the day and in a non-intoxicated state of mind.
In other words, after the break is another unfulfilling tease for the new AMC Walking Dead companion show set to debut this August.
Mystery box subscriptions are all the craze these days. You know what I’m talking about, right? Mystery subscription boxes are mail order boxes filled with stuff that you pay for on a monthly basis. The catch is that you have no idea what is going to be in the box month-to-month. You have to go on faith that what is being delivered, will match the value of what you’re paying for the monthly subscription. And depending on what you subscribe to, you can open your mystery box and it may be filled beyond the value of your monthly fee, or you may come up short. It’s a gamble. And with a million different subscription themes out there; boxes for dogs, for foodies, for grooming, for geeks, etc, etc. You have to be sure you know what you’re getting into. Curious? Read on.
There’s a lot of TV out there, and some of it is critically acclaimed way more than The Walking Dead.
To that end, let’s talk about Mad Men.
Don’t thank me, thank MorbidMalignant for this collection of killer The Walking Dead Infographs. I’ve posted some here after the break but be sure to follow the link for all of them in all their glory. (I tried to pick examples that had no real spoilers for season 5 if you are trying to catch up. The link does have season 5 spoilers.)
