I’m Not Sure What To Think About This First X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer

oscar-isaac-apocalypse
Ugh. Is anyone digging this character design?

Apocalypse is a great X-Men villain.  And I really enjoyed X-Men: First Class and loved X-Men: Days of Future Past.  But I’m not sure what to make of this first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse.  Nothing really grabs me about it and I hate the look of Apocalypse.  Maybe you’ll feel differently.

That said, I’m sure I’ll be seeing it in the theaters come May 27, 2016.

Slightly Misplaced Comic Book Heroes Case File #35: Darwin

Evolved past the need for body hair!
Evolved past the need for body hair!

For many years, the X-Men had the backstory that the original team, minus Beast as he was with the Avengers at the time, went on a mission to the mysterious island of Krakoa and disappeared.  Cyclops escaped and he and Professor Xavier put together a new team of mutants who went back to Krakoa and rescued the captured X-Men, making a new team that would go on to become Marvel’s biggest book.

More recently, a retcon came in.  There had been for years talk of a third Summers brother after Cyclops and Havoc, and finally, that story was coming out.  The third went by the codename of Vulcan, and he was part of a brief X-team that attempted a rescue of the original X-Men from Krakoa.  That team appeared to die, and the distraught Cyclops was so upset that Professor X wiped his memory of this second X-Men team before sending out the familiar team that included Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, and Nightcrawler.  Vulcan had managed to survive and came back much later very powerful and evil, but how?

Well, we can thank Darwin for that.

Where Does the Josh Trank Fantastic Four Movie Rank Against Other Superhero Flicks?

Why-Superhero-Movies-Need-Tragedy

You’ve seen me praise the film in my review.  Jenny liked it as well in her review.  The critics combined score over at Rotten Tomatoes was another story.  But again, I feel they missed the boat on this one.

To illustrate how wrong I think the critics are on this one, I decided to examine exactly where Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four ranked relative to the other DC/Marvel superhero movies in the post-Iron Man and Dark Knight era.

My findings after the jump.

Before You See Ant-Man Check Out This Infographic Of All Marvel Movies

This post is so awesome, this isn’t even the infographic!

While Iron Man was the first film of what we now know as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was far from the first Marvel film.  That distinction belongs to…ugh…Howard The Duck.  But they followed that up with The Punisher…starring Dolph Lundgren.  And then Captain America and Fantastic Four films so bad they never received theatrical release.  Marvel was really not off to a good start.

But starting in 1998, though there would still be some bumps in the road going forward, Wesley Snipes came along and saved the day.  Yes, Wesley Snipes.

Matthew Vaughn to Direct Flash Gordon Reboot

Flash_Gordon_(serial)

Sure, I don’t own any of the IP rights.  Sure, it was bound to happen anyway.  But, darnett they stole my idea!  And they have a darn good director ready to helm it.  Who should they cast?  We at Gabbing Geek know!
