GoBots are awesome! Ad-copy would never lie to us!

Seeing the most God awful film about transforming robots make a billion dollars worldwide has gotten Hasbro thinking.  “You know what we need?  A movie based on even crappier transforming robots.  The kids will eat this stuff up.”

According to Transformers World:

Hasbro has applied for a new Go-Bots trademark (this is not a renewal) under “distribution of motion pictures, ongoing television programs” and “Toys, games and playthings, namely, toy vehicles and accessories for use therewith”

I think ScreenCrush sums up most people’s thoughts about this:

Of course, the biggest hurdle to overcome with a ‘GoBots’ movie is that GoBots suck. They’ve always sucked. The kids who got GoBots for Christmas were the ones getting laughed at by Transformers fans on the playground.

Any big GoBot fans out there besides Watson?

    1. I was surprised by that too but looking into it, apparently Hasbro bought out their competition back in the 90s but they own the rights to GoBot characters & fiction not to make toys of them.

A GoBots movie is the last thing the world needs. If only they’d just concentrate on actually making a decently worthy Transformers one.

  1. Agreed, seems odd. Here is the explanation according to Wikipedia: “GoBots was a line of transforming robot toys produced by Tonka from 1983 to 1987, similar to Transformers. Although initially a separate and competing franchise, Tonka’s Gobots became the intellectual property of Hasbro after their buyout of Tonka in 1991.”

  2. You do realize that Hasbro has used the Go-Bots name for years while you just weren’t paying attention? Indeed, they’ve used this exact spelling (the original was “GoBots”, un-hyphenated) for two separate things: a line of simple Playskool transforming toys, and a sub-group of Hot Wheels-compatible Transformers. Not to mention a specific character named “Gobots”: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/GoBots
Jumping to the conclusion that there’s a GoBots movie in the works is very much a stretch, and demonstrates a lack of research.
